So I've decided I want to free myself from the cruel tyranny of cords.
I've settled on a wireless keyboard (the DiNovo for notebooks)...
... but find myself completely stumped by the problem of choosing a good wireless mouse.
All I'm looking for is a mouse with a nice, clickable scroll-wheel with a simple mouse-button on either side. I'd like for it to be larger than the average notebook-mouse, but smaller than some of those (IMO) freakishly large ergonomic mice.
Wrt wireless capabilities, I'd like reliability, and I'd like to be able to manage without a dongle. A BT-mouse would meet the latter requirement...
... but I've read discouraging things about BT-mice--that they can be laggy, prone to interference, go into "idle" mode and take a while to snap out of it.
I'd like a simple bluetooth mouse (not too many buttons) that is reliable and responsive and that doesn't fall asleep.
Do you guys know if this creature exists anywhere except in my dreams![]()
If it doesn't, what would be a good non-BT alternative?I've heard good things about the VX Nano, although I think it may be a bit small for my taste... would it be able to use the same USB dongle as the DiNovo keyboard so that I wouldn't have to use two dongles at once??

As for snapping out of idle mode, it literally takes two seconds, if that. Unfortunately, there really are no BT mice that don't sleep at all.
If you've got a good budget to work with, check out the Razer Orochi. It's got Bluetooth, and an optional wired mode with a detachable 3 foot cable if you run out of batteries, or if you need 1ms lag-free response. Its shape is superb while remaining compact, and it has 7 buttons (two standard clicks, scroll wheel, and two buttons on either side).
If you're on a limited budget, check out the Dell 5-button Bluetooth Travel Mouse.

just note that the orochi does not play well on fabrics.
the logitech vx nano does however, and id imagine its slightly larger predecessor, the MX anywhere does as well. also the MX uses the logitech unifying receiver that is compatible with some of their keyboards. -
There is a nice Sony Bluetooth mouse too
I have one
Bluetooth mice fall asleep because it saves a lot of battery power - but that's after prolonged inactivity, not regularly (on my Sony) and then its back in what - 2 seconds?
Interference - I personally haven't had a problem - laggyness, no.
But I'm not a gamer - just a slow computer user -
Speaking of Bluetooth mice, does anyone know if Bluetooth version of the Microsoft Bluetrack is set to be released any time in the near future? I really love my current BlueTrack Explorer, but the dongle does stick out a fair bit

I really loved my Thinkpad bluetooth mouse. It's about $50, has a nice rubberized black surface, and nice consistent buttons. The scroll wheel has nice firm clicks as you scroll, and button presses don't ever scroll the wheel like a lot of mice. I never had any connection dropouts or lag, and I'm really sensitive to that, even though I don't game on my laptop.
I say loved because I found I didn't need it with the trackpoint on my X61s like I feared I might. So I gave it to my mom along with the laptop when I replaced it, and I haven't gotten any complaints. -
I'm using the Orochi right now,
no lag, no problems of interference, and the wake up time from idle is only 0.5 seconds (how fast do you blink? LOL)
you'll get used to it in no time..
with orochi, when you need the good response time for gaming and no sleeping, plug in to USB cord and there you go, you have a gaming mouse now! that's what's so cool about it -
Hey!
Another BT to consider (from what is already listed above), is the Logitech M555b I linked you to it for sale at amazon!
It's a nice BT Mouse, has hyper-fast scrolling. It feels solid in your hand, like you have control! Batter life lasts a very long time.

I was just wondering if Microsoft were planning on releasing a bluetooth version of their Bluetrack mice. -
Cin... -
....that would be nice really ..but then again price tag may not be nice....

Thanks guys!
I think I've narrowed it down to the M555B and the V470 from Logitech, and this one:
http://www.aceofsweden.com/ace/mouse/laser-2-4ghz-wireless/tx18.html
The TX18 costs about half as much and supports bluetooth 2.0. I have no idea if the Logitech mice also support BT 2.0, or if it even matters...
However, it may also be a good size for me
The M555B looks like it may be everything I want in a mouse, but it's also just a little on the small side for my taste. It's smaller than Apple's mighty-mouse and I tend to find that one a bit too small as well... but we'll see
That Razer is way outta my budget and way to outlandish for me, I get scared just looking at it -
I'd say skip on BT and go for a nice RF mouse with a nano receiver. Take a look at the Logitech V450, an excellent no frills mouse.
-
I did consider that! The main reason I came down in favour of BT is because in about a month I'll have three computers I'll want to use the mouse with, and I have a tendency to lose small things when I have to move them around... and I'm thinking that that might happen to the RF dongle =P

The Fire Snake Notebook Virtuoso

I can't help but die a little when I use the mice at Uni, generic Dell optical mice, and find the tracking worse than awful -
i agree with MS blutrack + Bluetooth... i have the MS wireless mobile mouse 4000 and its great, small enough but not to small i have average sized hands and it fits perfectly... great tracking it even works on glass, on my lappy keyboard (perfect for plane trips) and even on grass... it does have a dongle but its a nano one and has its own compartment in the bottom of the mouse. whatever you do do not get the MS 5000 bluetooth mouse... biggest pos i have ever had i took it back 5-6 times and still couldnt get one that worked right so then went to Logitech M305 and then to MS WMM 4000 and it is great better than my full sized desktop mouse, it also comes with rubberised grips on the sides and has a decent scroll wheel too.
hope i helped even though im not talking about BT mice but RF mice are still a great option too.
cheers

I've been using the V470 for the last 6 months and absolutely love it. Nice simple clean design and it works very well. The TX18 looks decent as well.
-
here's mine
-
michibahn, is that as horribly uncomfortable as it looks?
-
It looks like it causes carpal tunnel instantly upon contact.
-
Well, I suppose you get used to it...
My Vaio mouse isn't to ergonomic either... -
-
Looks great. Is It all aluminum,or just the slide. The design looks like it will stow easily with out turning on, in a case/sleeve. Sort of Pricey, very nice. -
slide is only the aluminum part.. i came from logitech vx nano and i must admit that the ergo of this sony vaio is incomparable to the vx nano but i got used to it and the best thing is it free'd up my usb port since this thing is bluetooth
Bluetooth mouse considerations--does a simple, reliable, responsive BT mouse exist??
