I just want to confirm if this is normal operation:

I have a Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 which is a Bluetooth laser mouse. It works really nicely and I have not had any problems pairing it with multiple laptops (XP Pro, Vista HP). I did have issues with getting a good BT driver for the Inspiron E1505 (BT 350 card had lots of bad CPU-intensive drivers untiL I found an old old driver that worked great). But my biggest gripe with the mouse is the 5-6 second delay for getting the mouse out of sleep mode.

If I leave the mouse unattended for say 30 minutes, it takes 5-6 seconds of movement/activity with the mouse to get it to wake up. This occurs on both the XP and Vista OS environments. Is this normal?

As with my RF wireless Mouse, I never shut it off. I use rechargeable NiMH batteries.

It's normal since anything that runs on batteries needs to conserve energy as much as possible. Especially when it's laser.

Thanks. My RF wireless optical mouse wakes up instantly (or doesn't go to sleep) so I wasn't sure.

Mine does do this (as stated before)...but I just have a slight movement with the mouse, and it awakens. ;) :)

Looks like you got your answer anyways! :D

Glad your still liking it, BTW!

It's too early to say, but it's been on for over a week now and no problems. How long do the batteries last in your 5000? I use Rechargeable NiMH AAA's FWIW.

I use Duracell batt's for my 5000...and the last ones I replaced have lasted almost 3 months, so really...not too bad!! :D

I think, it depends on your own *usage*...That's great you have rechargeables ones! ;)

Sidenote: I hope you I9 is working well, for you! :D

The Mini 9 is great. It's built very sturdy and seems to be a high quality computer. I'm starting to like it more than the Studio 1537 if you ignore the obvious performance difference and smaller screen.

I started to get the dreaded intermittent touch key problem with the Studio 15 like everyone else. It's a BIOS/hardware issue (not related to OS) and Dell refuses to acknowledge it or they're trying to fix it.

That's nice that the I9 is working for you...(me ordering soon)! :D

Sorry for all the troubles your having with your S15 :( I would document each time you speak with Dell, regarding the issue at hand ;) Case numbers are a good thing to have! Then you have more backup...in case you need to get a complete replacment ;)

Back to topic at hand..your using the MS BTooth on both notebooks, right? Which one does the Mouse seem to work better on? Or, is it just the same ~ for both??

Good question Cin! I'm going to run some more tests and see if the problem is with a specific mouse, BT card, driver, or OS.

I uninstalled the bloatware known as Toshiba's Bluetooth Stack on the E1505 and after a reboot, Windows XP started installing stuff on its own, including the Bluetooth Enumerator. Not only did it get rid of 40MB worth of Toshiba services/processes, but it seems to have fixed the sleep issue. Rather than wait 5-6 seconds, I can get the mouse to wake up within 1-2 seconds just like on the Studio 15 and Mini 9. I guess it was a software issue.

MetroP...that's great it's working for you now! :D

1-2 seconds to wake is alot better than 5-6, esp. if you are in a time crunch or something! ;)

    Thanks for the update!!!

    Cin ;) :)
