Hi,
I made a post (under a different) account here asking for a mouse recommendation in 2006. I got the Logitech V270. It is not very reliable anymore, as it's fallen down the stairs, had beer spilled on it, been thrown against objects etc.
I need a good, inexpensive bluetooth mouse. It needs to have no extra buttons (i.e. just left & right click with scroll wheel). Is this possible? Almost every mouse I find seems to have an extra, unwanted button.
Looking forward to peoples suggestions. Thanks.

I don't want a cheap, unknown brand one from ebay that'll just break after a year either. Happy to spend up to £30

What size and weight are you looking for, AAA or AA this contributes to the weight and runtime, what is more important.
Do you need speed for gaming, do you want laser or optical not certain if you have an choice with bluetooth, laser works on virtually any surface, but you cannot lift and move the mouse when you get to the edge of the pad, as easy as you can with optical.
I have not looked at mice for a year or two so i don't know what advances have been made.

Logitech M705 Marathon Mouse. Comfortable size (not too large or small). Very simple, straightforward button layout. Battery life that lasts forever (3 years on Alkaline AA). Very reasonable price of $30- $35.
Skip Bluetooth. 2.4Ghz wireless is superior to bluetooth as a mouse connectivity standard. Don't fall into the trap of thinking "[Bluetooth] is newer, so it must automatically mean it's better." -

Very nice mouse as long as you are right handed, I am left handed but i have always used my right hand with a mouse and it`s like second nature now, I use a big 20" Tablet see my sig, It comes with an wirless hp keyboard and mouse, when i installed my ssd, I saw the wireless dongle plugged into an usb port on the motherboard and it`s twice the size of the Logitech one, so fitting should be no problem as you would loose an usb port with an normal notebook unless you are handy with a soldering iron and can connect it internally as i have seen done
Bluetooth uses the same frequency as wifi so they can interference unless you use 5ghz instead of 2.4ghz as i have seen as i use a small bluetooth mouse on my 10.1" Win8.1 Tablet.
I would just need to find an nice wireless keyboard to go with the mouse.
Some of the best alkaline battery`s according to tests are "varta high energy alkaline" supposedly beats Duracell in every test and they are cheap to buy in bulk, keep the extra ones in your refrigerator, keep them fresh.
John.
EDIT: It`s my tablet in the pic below, I normally say i have an notebook, as it takes too long to explain.

Many Bluetooth and 2.4GHz proprietary protocol devices are actually the same hardware. BT is just a common set of protocols within that freq range.

The M5 Pro SSD in your sig, are you sure it's SLC?Last edited: Oct 7, 2015 -

It looks like it might be MLC, I wounder why i thought it was SLC, I have over 20TB of writes on it and according to the smart it has had not realocation or what you call it when the ssd cells go bad.

Thanks for replies. I'll look into those batteries.
1) I only have three USB slots on my laptop. Bluetooth doesn't take up any of these.
2) Pressing extra buttons by accident becomes a nuisance to me

If that's the case, try the Logitech M535 or Logitech M557. Those seem to fit the bill for you.
Oh, and if it helps, I wouldn't worry too much about accidentally hitting side buttons on a mouse. If it really bothers you, any decent mouse will have software that lets you configure mouse button actions. You can simply disable all actions from buttons that you don't want -

I have an bluetooth logitech V270 myself, I got of ebay years ago reconditioned for £5 but i have never used it , I just checked the new ones are quite expensive maybe it`s because they are no longer made, I prefer 3 button mice, the scroll wheel can be pressed.
I use an tiny bluetooth Hama M2140 £15 on my 10.1" Win8.1 tablet, I only takes two AAA battery`s but i don't game it, but it`s great for portability.
Did you know that Bluetooth was named after an Danish King, see below.

I bought my Plextor SSD used, some guy`s notebook died and he was getting rid of the working parts, I paid £130, they were are £350 at the time, this was a few years ago, you can most likely get an 1TB SSD for that price now, I did an smart data capture then, and i can compare it to now if it need too.
When i got my first PC Desktop many years ago, I paid £300 for 16mb of RAM, and i had an 220mb HDD and an 512mb graphics card, Windows 95 came on around an 100 floppy disks, this was before cd drives were mainstream, dvd was unknown for computers.
My first HDD was in an Amiga 600 computer, it has an 20mb HDD, The Amiga was an amazing computer, I would not mind one now for gaming.

What you do is you go on amazon, pick some unmarked, unbranded optical mouse that costs 5$ for a pack of three. Or, if you're a snob, you buy one of the slim logitech "unified" mice with a nice pattern on it. And then use them like they're disposable.
You will always have these annoying glitches, some unstable input, some shaking on particular surfaces, some idle unstable pointer, some floating, inaccurate and unscaled movement mapping when in linear x/y sensitivity levels in unstandard resolutions, conspicuously high idle battery drain, etc. That you wouldn't get on things like The Office R.A.T., or the razer Orochi. But on the upside, the first alternative costs less than a 1/10th of the price.

So basically, free for all, and ever hopeful that the name will live on throughout history, defeat or victory not really mattering all that much.
But even if that's appropriate for how BT works, I sort of doubt that was the pitch in the abstract.. you know..?Starlight5 likes this. -
Was going to get the Logitech M535, but there are none for sale in the UK. Damn!
Edit: I went ahead and ordered a black one from South Korea. Probably going to take a few weeks to arrive.Last edited: Oct 12, 2015 -

I'm amazed I didn't find that. Ah well, at least there are no black ones in the UK! Maybe this mouse will be worth silly money in 10 years too.
