So what's the deal with bluetooth peripherals.. is it much better than other normal cordless peripherals?

For example if I get a bluetooth mouse, will I get better connectivity and or precision (well i guess that depends on the mouse itself) then normal cordless mice? Would it be better for gaming?

Also how does the battery of a laptop get affected by this, do bluetooth devices drain more power or normal cordless peripherals?

Would it be smart to have your whole set-up for a laptop(speakers, external keyboard and mouse, etc.) with bluetooth or just stick to good old cordless?

Don't get a BT mouse for gaming...lord no. I have one for my laptop and love it for basic desk use...but outside of that, I would never game with one.

I haven't seen much in terms of extra battery drain due to the BT, and the batteries in my BT mouse (Microsoft BT mouse) have lasted since last summer so I'd say it's pretty **** good. :)

well i meant the battery that would be drained from the laptop to keep up the connection with the mouse as bluetooth has to be turned on with ur laptop and I've heard it uses up alot of battery?

Bluetooth is supposed to be a low-drain design, but obviously that is going to vary with design. If you want a bunch of peripherals, it is convenient they all connect through one device (which can be internal) instead of several different dongles for each device.

Most bluetooth tranceivers are quite efficient. I'd say the power consumption between bt and the USB dongle for a wireless mouse would be negligible. I know that older bt mice suffered from lag making them unsuitable for gaming... I don't know how that applies to stuff running under bluetooth 2.0 though.

Unless you're planning on using it for gaming, a bt mouse had the advantage of not needing a dongle.

check my post in the other bluetooth thread here at the top for my experience with lag.

of course some people have complained that the non-bluetooth MX1000 also lags, so...

My Sony bluetooth mouse eats batteries like crazy! I've replaced them four times already in two months! I use my mouse probably three hours a day. I do play WoW and find no lag or any problems using the mouse.

Wow...I still have the ones that came WITH my Microsoft mouse going...had it since August.

I got my MS Mouse cheap on eBay too btw...there's a reseller on there...forget the name but they are highly reputable.

Bluetooth was ment to be a data transfer wireless that is faster than IR. Unlike the wireless that is used in mice and keyboards, they were ment specificly to transfer small packets of data to the receiver. Bluetooth is great for sending data between 2 or more electronic devices at a time, like sending doctuments to a printer, or syncing a PDA or cell phone. The only advantage that it has in a mice and keyboards is that it can be integrated in a notebook of the dangle is small and uses low amounts of power.
