Bluetooth, Is it worth it?

I'm getting a new laptop and there is the option of bluetooth. I know what it is, but is it worth it? I'm not convinced that I.. or anybody needs bluetooth in their notebook. Why would somebody want it?

 

i use it coz i have a wireless mouse (apple mighty mouse) and i absolutely love the wireless freedom. i also use it to connect my nokia phone sometimes to transfer pics i took on it or music n stuff. some people use it to connect wireless headsets, which are rather expensive and i dont really use em, but i understand the reason of wanting one...wireless is the way to go. i doubt ur gonna be spending much more for a laptop with bluetooth, i believe its hard to get a laptop withOUT bluetooth built in these days. and i'd rather have it in my laptop than not, who knows when u'll find the need for it? its not gonna cost much more. on the other hand, u can buy a bluetooth dongle which connects to ur USB for like $10. but i'd go built in..its easier

 

Why wouldn't you want built-in bluetooth. I use it for my Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse, no need for an additional USB thing to take up one of my ports. Unfortunately, the Bluetooth mouse goes through batteries much faster than "regular" USB wireless mice do.

Also, you can transfer files wirelessly and listen to music with a bluetooth headset. It was only a $20.00 option for my notebook and I remember wishing I would have it than not.

To each their own, you might not need it; but later on you could find a use for it. If you get a Dell computer, you can install a Bluetooth 2.0 module easily with little trouble.

 

Bluetooth is a requirement for me in a laptop or portable device.

stereo headphones, wiimote, mouse/keyboard, hands free headset, data transfer. I use all of those on occasion and its all via bluetooth.

 

Not a big fan, but included it anyway. For $20 (-$5 with coupon so really $15), its worth it, cause I think bluetooth technology is the future, I'd rather get it now than regret not having it sometime down the road.

Plus, with some phones you can transfer ringers and wallpapers, i guess that would be in data transfer though.

 

Bluetooth shouldn't be an option anymore. I think bluetooth should be integrated just like any other component on the motherboard.

Wireless transfers are the way to go.

 

yeah, I have custom ringers & themes on my phone that I transfered from my pc. Pay .99$ for a tone? I dont think so I would rather have the whole song for free. Plus kick it up a notch and make your own tones or customize them first on your pc via a audio editor.

 

Bluetooth is USB without wires...without it is like saying "yes, I want a mobile phone with land line please" =). Some might argue its more secure...but...

 

Who got a time machine and turned it back to 2000?

 

Erm...Feeling a little a out of date, maybe??
errr...cell phone maybe? speakers? mouse? keyboard?

Things like that work well with notebooks & Bluetooth technology!!!

 

If the system only has one mini card slot, you'll have to replace the existing 802.11 card with a combo 802.11+Bluetooth card, which would cost a lot more than a plain Bluetooth only card. And I don't think mini PCI Bluetooth cards are cheap either.

Just get the Bluetooth from the start.

 

My past two laptops have had Bluetooth ... and I very very rarely used it.

I briefly used a Bluetooth mouse, but that's it.

It wouldn't be a feature that would be a "must" for me. Things like my Zune sync wirelessly w/o it, and I don't have a cell/PDA that I'd be transfering things to/from.

 

Bluetooth is a nice option, but bluetooth accessories seem somewhat expensive. The only reason I'd need it is for wireless headphones. I hate the cable always getting in the way. But I'm not spending a hundred bucks for BT headphones. I've already got a USB data cable for my phone, and I can deal with a USB wireless mouse. The only other reason I'd need USB is for the flash drive, so I'm not worried about all of my USB ports being used up. Its all in personal preferences.

Oh yeah, if you read other threads, it seems like its pretty common to have connectivity problems using Bluetooth.

 

I use bluetooth for dial up networking with my cell phone. I use a usb connection as well.

It's nice to have sometimes. However, don't think that it's ever necessary. My last laptop did not have bluetooth, and I worked perfectly without. My new ones do, and I haven't turned on bluetooth a single time. Its still relatively easy to get by without having to use bluetooth. Its nice connectivity, but its not always reliable (in my experiences using bluetooth devices) and most things usually have another form of connection anyway.

 

I'd go bonkers without being able to use my Bluetooth mouse on my Latitude D830.

BT ought to be mandatory. Its what, a $10 upgrade? Lose a USB mouse dongle, and you've paid for it...

.....trust you will want the bluetooth just for future .. wireless headset which only cost 30--80 now days (I meant the stereo ones)/ mouses/ use with cell phones. And now that BT 3.0 is in development , it will be replacing a lot of other things that need wire . Who knows maybe next gen is USB 3.0 X 2/4 and BT X 3 (ports ) . I always dreamed wireless times hehe (from speaker / mouse / to everything else )

 

was reading something on wireless eletricity , which can power up a TV .... so I guess in the near future is not too far away now.
