Getting myself ready for university, so I bought this VX Nano. It got here the day after ordering, so i'm happy w/ that (newegg), but after using it myself, I think i'm regretting that I bought it. I mean, yeah, it's cool, it's tiny, it has a tiny dongle and it has a nice pouch for it, but the mouse, I might have problems with.
I bought the mouse to be mobile with, as I'm going to take my current Logitech G9 with me to use at my dorm room. I love my G9, the back/forward buttons at the thumb, the scroll wheel, middle click, etc.
I think I might have issues with the VX Nano though, since it has the back/forward button on use for the index finger (odd placement), and scroll wheel middle click is the switch for hyper scrolling (which I hardly use, and i prefer not to use it, i'd rather use the middle click since I use it a lot for games, opening new links on tabs on firefox, etc.) It is replaced by the other middle click below the scroll wheel.
I'd rather have them switched around.
Anyway, is the VX revolution a similar design? I love how compact the nano is but those 2 problems with middle click/back forward buttons might get to me.
VX Nano
Pros:
Small, compact, can keep everything in mouse
Nice little bag
Tiny dongle
Cons:
Index finger backward/forward buttons
Not very ergonomic
Scroll click middle button replaced by hyperscrolling switch, in place of middle button is below it
Should I return this nano and buy the revolution or just return it, just scroll pad on laptop for mobility, and use G9 for prolonged desktop usage, or keep it and hope that I might like it? After all, it was just a first impression. I have the restocking fee waived if I should decide to return the nano, but still have to pay about 7$ shipping.

I have the MX Rev and i love it, sleek look, good feel, and it doesn't have to be tiny to be portable just wireless i say

i'd recommend you try the vx revolution. It is pretty similar to the G9... back and forward buttons are on your thumb, hyperscroll switch on bottom of the mouse, scroll wheel is normal, etc etc.
also, you can change the function of each button on the mouse using the given software (I set the zoom thingy to change music, search button to open internet... etc). Only thing i dont like about the revolution is that the dongle sticks out a bit from a laptop, and my hand gets a little uncomfortable after using it for a while since i got too used to the size of the G9 -
Have you tried the V450 Nano? I have six of them, each with a different laptop. Love it.

I use my G7 on the big latptop, its perfect and I love how it has 2 batteries so I just swap them when one is low and never had a dead battery.
I have the VX nano for the EEE but because the EEE has multi finger gestures I never use it, its faster/easier to use the touchpad. 2 finger scrolling, 3 finger back/forward. Its great.
I have not used the nano in so long I forget the layout, but remember you can remap several keys in the software if needed. -
I can't really do anything with software. The scroll wheel click is a physical switch to switch to hyperscrolling, and it's replacement is the bottom middle click under it. On top of that is the index finger backward/forward buttons, rather than thumb.
So, I think I might return it, cause it might be too hard to get accustomed to both the G9 and the Nano mice at the same time.
*Sigh* There needs to be a VX Revolution Nano. -
I have a VX Nano, a MX Revolution and a VX Revolution. I bought the Nano without seeing it and found that it was to small for my hands for long use. The only other problem is the wheel not being a button. To get around this, I configured the search button to be the middle button in Firefox and other places. Other than those two things, it is a great mouse.
I then got a MX Revolution. Again, it is a good mouse - well built and lots of configurable buttons. But, I just don't like it. It seems heavy and unwieldy.
Next was the VX Revolution. I nearly got this instead of the MX Revolution, but I was worried about the size. It is still a bit small for my hands. But, it is also very light, has all the buttons I need and works perfectly.
I now use the VX Revolution at home where it gets heavy use. The VX Nano is at work where my laptop is mainly used as a music player. I am finding this a lot more comfortable now as I seem to have changed the way I hold a mouse - more with my fingertips than grasping it in my fist.

I have have the nano and I absolutely love it. It is perfect for taking to class. I was a little wary about the back and forward button placement too, but you get used to them after about a week. I have fairly large hands and I don't really have any problem with it size-wise.
-
I'm probably going to return it. More opinions?

Opinions aren't going to help you, what you're asking about is personal preference. Many people like the VX Nano, if you don't then someone else's opinion won't change your mind.

razer mamba nano will be a dream come true
or the sidewinder G8 nano, bluetrack is neat. -

Chango99:
The VX Revolution is a vastly different design from the VX Nano. To start, the Nano favors a claw-grip while the Rev is a palmable mouse. For me, this alone makes it a better mouse because I hate the claw-grip. The Rev just feels like the perfect size. It's not huge like the MX Rev, but it's not super tiny like the Nano. Also, the back and forward buttons are placed near the thumb rest where they're easy to hit. The Rev has a zoom toggle near the index finger. I personally don't use it or have anything programmed to it.
Furthermore, the scroll wheel is very different from the Nano. Unlike the Nano, the middle click is still there on the Revolution. To switch between ratchet mode and free spin, there's a switch on the bottom of the mouse you have to flip. Due to its rather inconvenient location, I don't use it. When I did use it, I didn't like it, so it wasn't a big loss to me.
The only thing I like about the Nano is the small receiver. -
The ergonomics of both the V450 and VX are fine for me. I'm just not that picky, I guess. We each have our preferences though, and nobody makes a "one size fits all" that will please everybody. A mouse is a very personal thing.
Lord knows, we handle it more than we handle virtually anything else. -
Yeah, I think i'd go with the revolution. Would be perfect with a nano receiver.
I use the Logitech G9 and i'm a claw gripper, how is the logitech vx revo not a claw grip? Seems smaller/similar to me. -
Oh yeah I meant the Revolution still has a middle click.
-
-
It's a physical switch, not a software switch.

Return that sucker and buy the VX Revolution. I was on the verge of buying the Nano, but decided against it because of the two reasons you posted: strange placement for the "thumb" buttons and lack of middle click.
I ended up buying the VX revolution instead and I love it. IMO, it's the perfect size for a laptop mouse: slightly large, but still portable. The thumb buttons are at the right place, and are probably much easier to use than contorting your thumb to use them on the VX nano or using your pointer finger.
The HyperScroll is awesome, and it's easy to get used to it, the exception being with games. Too many games use the scroll wheel to change weapons, and it would suck royally if you accidentally pulled out the rocket launcher instead of a crowbar, and killed yourself because the HyperScroll is too loose. The switch on the bottom is pretty easy to get to. Just flip the mouse over and flick the switch. -
vx revolution does work with a vx nano receiver. you can get a vx nano receiver for $20 or so on ebay.
-
If that's true, then the switch really *is* controlled by software, otherwise auto-switch to free spin wouldn't work. You can reprogram the middle wheel to be anything you would like.. although maybe the default logitech software doesn't work? (I have an MX Rev)

UberOptions is basically a crack for your logitech drivers, that allows gives you all the customization logitech denies you.
Good luck!
