so I'm looking to buy a speaker set for my laptop...I can good a really good deal on ebay for a refurbished set or shell out extra cash at a store for a new one. Is a refurbished item just as good as a new system? or do I have to worry about it breaking down sooner rather than later?

first of all, a device can and will break down as soon as you use it, there are no guarantees that anything will not break down. refurbished is usually a term used by manufacturers and resellers where they take the used product, replace anythings missing, replace scratched/damaged parts and then sell it back to you. who knows how long the thing has been used but if the difference between new and refurb is a lot then it isnt too bad to get the refurb cuz it will kinda be like buying a used one but almost brand new

This depends on the price difference between the new and refurbished item, the item itself and the reputation of the company/person on ebay.

If there is a huge price difference between the new and refurbished item then it's worth considering. If the person on ebay has a good repuation (feedback) on its refurbished products then there's a good chance that he does a good job. Keep in mind that you are taking a gamble by buying something refurbished, it should be as good as new but you never know when something will break and it will not be covered by the company's warranty.

If you told us what speakers you were looking at and the price difference it would help us make a decision.
