It isnt that unknown for a hard drive to fail, which is why I was thinking about buying it, but I found one for $90 total when with Tiger Direct I'd be paying $121 with a 2 year replacement plan (that only covers internal problems with the device, not if you drop it or anything).

Do you think I should pay the extra $30 for the 2 year hardware failure replacement plan?

    Thank you

I wouldn't pay the extra $30. I think they come with a 3 year warranty on it so you should be fine with the standard warranty. If it fails on you still have that to use as a pretty enclosure so you can just replace it with another notebook hard drive.

I wouldnt even have any idea how to do that, but it seems pretty easy since alot of other people are doing it.

it's just a matter of popping the enclosure open with your fingers and replacing the drive inside. It's only the hard drive and a connector which you can pull right off.

Also if you have a costco membership I suggest digging up this months coupon book. They have a 160GB passport for $90 after the coupon this week at costco. Plus, if I'm not mistaken correctly, with costco's amazing return policy, if your hard drive ever dies out just bring it back to costco and they'll give you a new one or a refund anytime at all.
