Thats the problem with threads like these. So many recommendations are based on what they own (generally iPods and Zunes) by people who have never even tried (let alone heard of) PMPs from other companies like Cowon, iAudio, iRiver, and even Creative.

These threads should just automatically start of with a link to reviews from anythingbutipod

Yeah they should, but I've tried alot of different brands of players, and own alot of players too. I gave ipods a chance and they just aren't nearly as nice.

With that being said…it doesn’t necessarily mean iPods are not the best for some. The great thing about differences is that we all are actually different. We base our experiences on needs and wants. Just because you tried several and didn’t like iPods, don’t mean it won’t appeal to others. Let’s take the OP for instance. He just wanted something simple and easy to work with while jogging or sitting at the office. He might have a cell phone that takes care of all his needs; rather it’s TV viewing, MP3 listening, Satilite Radio, using the phone as a modem (great for notebooks) or just reading ebooks. If that’s the case, flexibility in a MP3 player is not his main concern. The D2 looks like a great unit. But all my MP3 players suffer the same faith, put away in the closet or somewhere I can’t find it. Unless it’s an iphone or a zune 3 (soon to be release), I just don’t have the need or want to carry anything other than my Treo 755p (most of the time). We can push our views on other’s, which in turn could stray one away. But as I said before…what’s best for you, might not be best for others.
