I'll admit it, I'm a total creature of habit. When I find something that works for me, I stick with it....and keep sticking with it probably longer than I should. I finally just bought MSO 2010 to replace 2003 recently, for example.
I'm not different when it comes to laptop/mobile mice. I fell in love with the Microsoft Explorer Mini Mouse when it came out in early 2009 and I've gone thru FOUR of them since! My laptop is my primary (and only) system and I always use a mouse with it at home. So I'm happy if I get 8-10 months out of a mouse.
The quit making the Explorer Mini Mouse long ago and they're becoming less common on Ebay and as refurbs on various sites. The ones that are out there are way overpriced, so the only rational choice is to find something new. Besides, it will awesome to finally have a 'nano' receiver!
Part of my "creature of habit" personality is brand loyalty until there's a compelling reason not to be. I owned seven cars over the first 16 years of driving and they were all Hondas (or Acuras, which are just fancy Hondas that cost more). I probably would still be driving one today, but I had an accident in 12/2005 and totaled my '02 Accord. My budget was a little too tight for a new Accord and I hated the 2006 Civic (looked like the offspring of a spaceship and a suppository), so I was forced to make a change. I bought a Mazda3 instead...and just got a new Mazda CX-9 SUV last year...so the pattern continues and I'll probably be driving a Mazda 10 years from now! =)
My point in saying that is that I've only had Microsoft mice in the past. I think I tried a Logitech and a Targus 10+ years ago and that only reinforced my loyalty to Microsoft ones. But there are tons of great mice out there, or so I hear, but reviews are hard to find and woefully inconsistent to the point of being useless!
My needs are pretty basic- I only use the two primary mouse buttons and scroll wheel (but disable the scroll button). What do you guys use and/or suggest???

Wow. That was a long post.
In any case... Logitech M705 Marathon Mouse. It's performance is "good enough" for general purpose use. And the batteries last forever, which sidesteps the biggest weakness of any wireless mouse (short battery life).
I suggest putting Lithium AA batteries in the mouse, to give it a lighter center-balanced weight. Using standard alkaline AA batteries will make it heavier and rear balanced.

...tried the new "touch" mice from logitech? Look a bit weird, but they're kind of neat.
Otherwise, the m235 mice are the simplest, most comfortable and most durable, imo. ..not that any of the logitech mice are uncomfortable, complicated or bad quality -
I also use a logitech wireless mouse. Only one AA battery and it lasts for months. Don't know the model as i bought this mouse years ago. It is a mini mouse.

I went to Staples and Best Buy, the only two stores in my area that have mice on display out of the box so you can touch them. I've given Staples a LOT of business over the years and the Store Manager at the one near my house knows that. He and I have became buddies over the years (he saved me $2200 on an order when I was doing Accounting and Quickbooks Consulting about five years ago and I took him out for beer and wings to thank him....and sent him four awesome tickets (box seats) for a Braves game). Anyway, he let me take any of the display mice I wanted to test over aisle where the laptops are on display. Then he unlocked the laptop so I could use it to test them....
I tried four Logitech and I can't even remember their model numbers other than the m235. It was too small for my hands (I'm a 6'2" 240# guy) so tiny doesn't work for me. The othere three were decent, but nothing special in any way.
Ultimately, I tried over 10 different ones from Logitech and Microsoft. The Create of Habit found just one that immediately 'felt' right- I got the Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000! =) And I'm very pleased with it after two weeks of daily use, so it's a keeper.
Buying a new mobile mouse....ugh!
