I am looking into buying Headset for multimedia use but I have had a few over the years in the sub $70 - $80 range and they had an annoying buzzing noise when moments of silence arose in movies or gaming.

Are there any headsets around in the ~$100 range (give or take $30) that do not have this buzzing noise and work well with all kinds of media?

If not, I have a mic, so any good headphones to recommend for multi-use: gaming, music, movies?

And are the surround sound headsets/phones that much better than stereo headsets/phones?

If you were using the headphones with your notebook then the buzzing was most likely due to your sound card instead of the headphones. If you have very sensitive headphones(which isn't a bad thing) then a poor sound source will give you buzzing or hissing.

Hmm, I never thought about this, but most headsets I used were multiplatform: xbox/pc or ps3/pc and xbox/ps3/pc.

Maybe a single platform headset would relieve me from these problems.
