I have had to re-install everything on a new hard drive on my sons Sager NP2096 yesterday. I got to the Bluetooth drivers. It asked for the Bluetooth device to be turned on so it could connect. As far as the software is concerned, the mouse is identified and connected. The mouse also appears dead. The cursor will not move. I can't find the paper that came with the mouse. So I don't know whats its doing.
When the mouse is turned on, the light on top glows green for about 10 seconds then dims out. Theres a button on the right of the on/off switch. If I press that, the light flashs red/green constantly. Fresh batteries. I also noticed, the laser/diode is not lighted. I'm thinking the mouse died.
Any suggestions?

My mouse acts the same. If you don't press any button, the led will dim.
Holding the button and then having the led flashing red/green switches her into scanning mode. When this is activated, you should be able to find it with your computer and bind it.
The laser on the bottom does not need a visible light source as it is a laser-mouse. You have to look in a specific angle, then you'll see a small flashing red dot (when the mouse is switched on).
I think, the problem is somewhere in the notebook. Perhaps you could try a linux-live-CD, using Bluetooth with Linux is very easy, that way you could verify whether the mouse/bluetooth of your notebook is dead or something is wrong with windows.
If that doesn't help, try other batteries, perhaps that helps. -
Thanks. Another thing I remembered, I had to enter a code to set up the mouse. It would not take a blank, would not take "5000". So I tried "0000" and it took it. Don't remember the actual code from the instructions. Don't know if I have to have it to connect properly.

From the instructions booklet that comes with the mouse:
- In the bluetooth software, choose the option to add a device (for example, click Add). Follow the directions in the wizard. If you are prompted for a passkey, enter '0000', or choose no passkey. The mouse will not work with any other passkey.

Seems like you did everything correctly, if you say that the mouse is connected, then it should work. Are you sure the mouse is working? Did you get the 60sec countdown when the mouse connected?

It appears the mouse died. As mentioned earlier, I had no laser diode showing. I bought a Dell bluetooth mouse which did have a laser diode nicely light up. After removing the 5000 from setup, I installed the Dell and this one works, no problem. Looks like my 1 month old Microsoft 5000 died.
