    Hi guys,

Just took delivery of my new U2410 - great monitor even though I havent turned it on yet!

I have been inspecting it and one thing has stuck out at me that i dont think is quite normal.

The black plastic frame in the bottom right corner near the on/off button seems very "spongy" to the touch....if i press on it, it has a fair amount of "play" or "give" in it...I would say about 2mm or so.

Its apparent to me as when i look down INTO that corner of the screen, i can see a fair bit of "silver" which i presume is the internal screen edge. If i press on the black plastic frame near by, it flexes in and out by a few mm and when pressed in, the silver edge disappears.

The other corners seem fine....i have prodded gently around the rest of the frame but it seems prevalent in that one corner.

Am i being paranoid? - has anyone else noticed any degree of "flex" whne pressing on the black plastic frame around the screen? - I dont want to be a whinger or complainer if its fairly acceptable but if it is not normal, I would be on the phone in the morning arranging a replacement.

Any advice or input would be greatfully received.

    TIA
    Steve.

Completely the wrong section, just to point that out. However, my U2410 doesn't have any of the flex you're describing. Beyond that I can't really help.

I own a pair of U2410 both manufactured in Jan 2011. I have no flex in either of em.

Mine was manufactured last month (March 2011) and has A05 revision. Ive just been inspecting it again and there is definetly flex on the thin black frame in the corner where the power button is located and the touch sensitive controls.

Like I said, if i push on it , I can see the frame moving and the gap between the frame and panel itself is (in that corner) is about 2mm. If I press on the frame, it goes "in" to meet the panel and the silver bit that I could see, disappears.

There is absolutley NO GAP by where the Dell logo is on the bottom front of the framework, which is what led me to believe that its not quite normal.

The photo below shows were the gap and flex is....when the plastic frame is pressed, the 2mm gap goes.....and I can no longer see the silver edge of the panel itself.

Its like the frame doesnt fit very well......so chances are, its going back....

EDIT: If this thread needs to be relocated, mods, please do so - apologies if posted in wrong area.

I can pull the bezel enough that I can see the silver like in your pic, but only in the middle by the Dell logo, and by default there's no gap (in the corner or anywhere else).

Yeah, I too can PULL the bezel out to reveal the silver near the logo....but when its not being pulled its sits flush against the panel with no silver showing and no gap.

The problem area, as shown in my pic, is like that (with the silver showing) without any pulling or pushing the gap exists and the silver is "exposed"....if I push on the bezel in that area, thats where the 2mm "flex" is, the bezel will push back to the panel to eliminate the view of the silver edge but as soon as released, it obviously springs back to its "faulty" position.

I know its probably minor and wont affect performance but at this kind of price level, i kinda expect perfection in a monitor and not loose or poorly fitting components.

So, Serephucus....i take it your bezel sits flush with the panel in the corners and no silver edge of the panel is visible, unless you "pull" on the bezel to reveal it?

Yes. In the corners, I actually can't pull the bezel at all, so I think you're just missing a screw or something.

Have taken some more photo's - better ones!

    ImageShack Album - 7 images

If anyone can say that theirs IS NOT the same as mine in the corner near the buttons, I would really appreciate that - pictures to confirm would be even better.

    TIA

Already been on the phone as I only had it delivered yesterday. I am gonna be requesting a brand new replacement. I dont have much luck with Dell and brand new items...had to have my M17x replaced 5 times before they got it right!

On a side note, I take it on yours, you cant see any of the kind of thing I have shown in my pics? - the silver showing through in the area that i have outlined in red on one of the pics......

Nope, can't see any silver, just the screen and the black bezel around it.

Yeah, I don't have that issue either. Get it swapped out. Make sure to check for dead pixels when before you keep the panel.

I can't wait until LED panels come out in higher sizes and resolutions at reasonable prices...the CCFL backlight buzzzzzzz is getting old....I have sensitive ears, all u2410's buzz under ~80% brightness (at least the 12 I've tried :p) :(

Any info on how to check for dead pixels? - obviously will involve various solid colours being displayed but is there a program/software for this specific aplication?

Ok, so I have been in touch with Dell over the monitor and have had confirmation of a replacement order. Looks like it will arrive tomorrow so fingers crossed, it will be fine.

Thanks to everyone for your help/advice/input.

    Regards
    Stevie. ;)
