    Hi,
I have a Dell XPS 1530 and looking to buy some good speakers for it. Have my eye on the Altec Lansing MX5021, but wondering if,

    1) Is there any point getting good speakers for the onboard sound (sorry, I don't know what the card is)

    2) Should I invest in an external sound card for these speakers

    3) What speakers you guys might recommend for the lappy, if not the ALs?

I will be using the speakers for music (rock, and electronic) and occasional gaming...

The laptop speakers are a joke, they are like mobile phone speakers. All you can do with them is talk on Skype that too with difficulty..
and they have very low volume level also.

for Music, gaming, movies, DJing, anything etc. they are insufficient^100 ( raised to 100)

    Why?
Coz they dont have subwoofers, and they aint even 2.1 channels..

which means u r losing 50% of audio details straight without any reason.

So even if u buy the cheap budget speakers its much much better.

External Speakers are a must if u want real audio.

Logitech makes damn good speakers for Laptops..do check them out.

Althogh soundcard is not needed unless u buy surround sound 5.1 channel.

btw whats your budget? i can recommend u some really cool desk speakers.
