i just ordered the samsung 206bw widescreen lcd monitor for use with my 360 and asus g1s notebook while at college and i already have a question.

because my keyboard (logitech g15) is rather large, i am not able to put it comfortably in the keyboard try of my desk with enough room for my mouse and pad as well. so, i planned on putting both the keyboard and mouse/pad on the actual desk and sliding my laptop in the keyboard tray, which does indeed fit.

here's my problem though: i can only do this if my notebook will detect the external monitor (which will be connected via dvi) and enable me to close the lid. if i can't shut the lid while using the monitor, i'm going to have to figure out another setup.

so, basically, can you shut the lid to a notebook (the asus g1s in my case) while using a monitor?

well of course you can shut it, the question is what will it do.

If its on do nothing, you should be able to see it on the monitor

start up "power 4 gear" and edit some settings. you'll have to set it so that when the lid is closed, it "do[es] nothing"

Go right ahead and try after applying and saving those settings

I wouldn't recommend it because the keyboard area is a ventilation area for the notebook, air goes in and out.

i can't locate power 4 gear for some odd reason. when i go to my programs list, it is clearly listed there, but i can't access it. i do a search using the vista search and it still doesn't show up. i know it's probably some really ridiculous and simple solution, but i am admittedly a big n00b at computing. what should i do?

I really don't know. But be careful for heat, monitor your temps. Closing the laptop reduces the amount of heat that is released.

i do, are you using vista?

go into display properties, and select your moniter as your display device rather than the laptop screen.

yep, thats what all asus' have, but if you want to set the moniter as the default display, you need to go into display properties.
