Did you try going back to NEC and getting a new adaptor?

thanks guys, but actually i tried both pchub and nec. nec stopped m400's production a while ago (so did my warranty) and one cant even find it from their website now. pchub was the only place on the internet i could find that had the adapter but it's out of stock now... :(

    Some questions / suggestions:

What voltage and power rating or current does the PSU need to be? (Should be on the bottom of the computer).

What does the power connector socket look like? What size is it?

Notebook manufacturers, for their own convenience, tend to use only a small range of PSUs and standardise on the connectors within their own product line.

There is a very good chance that one of the multi-voltage multi-tip PSUs will fit your computer (and running 1 volt lower will probably work OK). Can you find a local computer / component store which will let you try the tips for size before you buy? Failing that, another NEC PSU with the same voltage / current / power rating will probably fit.

    Hope this helps,

    John

Try Radio Shack. Do a search on their site for universal power adapter, and the first item that shows up is a universal power adapter for notebook PCs for $10, along with other adapters as well.
