Manufacturers like to include these cheap plastic caps to protect the USB connector on thumb drives. You will invariably loose these after owning the thumb drive for 10 minutes. Some manufacturers attatch the cap to the drive so that it can not be lost. These manufacturers are in the minority however.
Now, why do we even need caps. The USB connector is neither fragile or delicate. Who really gives a **** about it being exposed?!?!

This is why I bought a Cruzer Titanium, the plug slides inside the casing when no in use, so I dont have to worry about it. But as far as people who just sell the caps, im sure if you googled it you could find a company or person who sells them.

Love my lexar sport. Reliable as hell and i never use that **** cover. I've even ran it underwater to prove a point.

Dust, dirt and bending are all bad things for the metal on those USB connectors. True, they're steel, and will resist water, but you don't want to leave them damp for a while (rust bad!), nor do you want to transplant pocket lint into your USB port, slowly filling it until it's unusable and a fire hazard. So there are reasons for it. It's better than not having a cap. But a cap isn't strictly NECESSARY, no.
