I'm looking for some advice. I have two laptops that I carry with me when I travel. One is a Dell 15" and the other is an Alienware 17", which is a huge machine.
I currently use the Alienware backpack, which I can put both machines in and the power for the Dell (I put the power block for the Alienware in another bag).
This setup works but obviously it is heavy. I'm thinking I want to move to a wheeled laptop bag, but I cannot seem to find one that would work to hold both machines. I am hoping someone here might have some advice on what might work.
Edit: 6/8/2010 I found something I like.

Sell them and buy a 15" Alienware notebook so that you only would need to carry one...
-
One is for work and one is for play. I have to carry both. :/

Ok. That is a tough problem to solve.
If only they made a powerfull business looking notebook. -

Duct tape the two notebooks together by the bottoms so one on the bottom becomes a lapdesk while you use the one ontop. Then when you need to switch, just flip it over.
-
lol, duct tape!
I think with a laptop backpack it won't get much better honestly bud. Putting them in two different cases (one in backpack, one in a shoulder case or something) is just going to unbalance you. I think for what you're trying to do you've got the optimum solution.
The other option of course is to downsize your gaming laptop -- but you might not want to do that because typically that means you'll lose some power (not always, but generally).
At least you're getting a good workout! -

Maybe something like the Solana ( http://www.amazon.com/Samsonite-18200-Solana-Rolling-Tote/dp/B0011TCBI8)? -
get a wheeled bag with expanding compartments,
ship the power brick, sleeve the other laptop and put the AW in the padded compartment.
but honestly, why carry a 15" if your AW can handle it all? you don't game AND work at the same time, right? -
Get a smaller notebook for work, like 13" or even a netbook.
If you travel frequently, perhaps sell the 17" gaming laptop and buy a 15".
17" machines are usually for desktop replacement and/or big guys. -
Heh, if only duct tape solved my problems.
I'm not allowed to put work applications on my home machine. I'm not allowed to put gaming apps on my work machine. So I have to have both.
I want to move to a wheeled setup, my shoulder is getting quite the workout.
I'm looking at this guy. Anyone ever use it?

There should be any number of luggage solution so solve your problem. Not all of them will have padded compartments, if that is what you are looking for. In that case, a $10 sleeve should solve that problem.
-
The wheeled luggage is a very good solution. But if you want to go backpack, I'd suggest a technical daypack used for backpacking. Go to a sporting goods store like REI in the US, put in the equivalent weight of your laptops and other things you normally have combined into the pack and walk around the store for awhile. A good fitting pack will make toting heavy things much easier and less tiring. And it's small enough to use as a carryon. Mine's a 30 liter Deuter.

Mate I travel with a Dell XPS m1730 in a booq slimfit 17" bag, kills my shoulder after walking around the airport for any length of time! One of the big reasons I am getting rid of it. A 17" gaming laptop should remain on the desk, with occasional movement, thats it lol.
I would ditch the Alienware, I am looking at the HP Envy 15 currently. Bloody good spec, in a 1" thin, lightish package. Best of both worlds. And getting an M15x wouldn't help, I looked into this. They still weigh a ton whilst only being a bit smaller.
For your current needs, a wheeled bag is def the way to go though.
Is something like this the style you are after? --> http://www.google.com/products/cata...ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CCAQ8wIwAw#ps-sellers -
I ended up with this.

I really like it. So far so good. -
No backpack can comfortably carry that much weight. You need either a daypack, or a wheeled carrier.
Incidentally, you can't talk someone out of a preference. -
I have a great Samsonite bag that can hold two 15-16" laptops. Check out what they sell to see if they make something that will hold a 17".

Can't you just carry 2 seperate hard drives? One hard drive for 'business', the other for 'personal'? And swap them out? Or carry them as a second caddy?
That's what I would do. Or just virtualize your business stuff onto a personal laptop, or vice versa. -
It is extremely not logical,if you are not allowed to install games on your second laptop, and your business to gaming laptop.Just buy a 15" machine equipped with ati 5650 and core i5,install two operating systems, and switch according to your job.
Your problem is like, "I can not walk with running shoes". A gaming laptop can handle business. -
I've been having a peek around for a roller case, but as a High School student, never though it would be that useful. No doubt when I grow older I'll invest in one. Nice purchase, btw.
-
Use one of the two hard drives inside the m17x for work, and the other one for play...problem solved
-
lmfao. thats ing ingenious.
although, if I ever saw one of my employees making a presentation with an alienware.... -
