Does anyone have any suggestions on a carrying bag for a 17" laptop? Preferably something that looks slick!

I'd recommend a backpack, but probably the slickest and actually pretty practical way to carry any laptop would be the Acronym 3A-5TS, paired with the 3A-L1-17 integrated sleeve. The L1-17 will accommodate quite a large machine. It's featured briefly in their collection video: ACRONYM® Acronymjutsu [SS-14] on Vimeo. Total of the bag + sleeve = about $1300.

I thought about doing a review but my bag reviews seem to get very little feedback... so yeah.

But as I said - really, you'd want the behemoth end of 17-inch machines to be in a backpack. The VX Fitzroy is a Mission Workshop backpack that expands for various loads, has a fairly slick toploading closure system and is designed for a 17" notebook. $319.

You didn't put a budget, so...

    I'm looking into Slappa myself.

Make sure you get something with a lot of padding. If you drop something that heavy without anything to protect against the fall...ouch. If you are going to carry it around a lot then get a backpack. Personally I find awkward to carry a backpack big enough with padding to carry a 17-inch.

Negative. I already issued a warning against Slappa products. But here it is once again:

    1) The headphone hard case strap broke and I lost my brand new ATH M50 Collectors Edition at the train station. I came back the next day and found the broken piece next to the bench where I had been sitting.

    2) The Slappa backpack although still usable, shows visible signs of fatigue at the shoulder straps. About 6 months of use.

    3) The Slappa briefcase strap failed completely and the case came crashing to the floor. I had only use it once! Luckily, I had just removed my laptop (brand new at the time) when it broke.

The so called metal stay used to secure the shoulder strap to the briefcase snapped like a pretzel. A Chinese metal I suspect, since I have had other Chinese metal snap like this before.
