There is no such thing. If you want something professional you pay the price. That's how the world works.

Anything branded as "gamer's mouse" or "gamer's choice" is usually expensive (unless the model is going out of date).

    for example:
Microsoft Habu Gaming Mouse 2000 dpi Laser USB is $79.79 (after tax here in Canada)

A good example of a relatively cheaper Logitech Gaming mouse (since it's going out of date)

Logitech G5 : 46.14 (after tax here in Canada)

    A more updated model costs
Logitech G7: 68.38 (after tax in Canada)

get the nyko airflow mouse. it was $5 a few years ago and it has worked wonders for gaming for about forever.

unfortunately its now $15 which kind of takes away the original allure of the thing... oh well... still a great mouse.

I'd recommend looking for a Microsoft Optical IntelliMouse 1.1 (or the 3.0 if you can spend a bit more) which you could probably pick up for around $20. It's a nice all around mouse with nice build quality, two side buttons and good performance, so it'll be useful for general use outside of gaming too. Another to look out for is the Logitech MX310 which should run you about the same and is a similar mouse in terms of features.

If $20 is too expensive you could always go to your local retail store and pick up a generic optical for $5 or $10. By the way, no one uses or sells ball mice anymore... ;)

Murdoc, I think that's a bit ignorant to say. Yes, there are a lot of mice branded to be specifically used for "gaming," but there are plenty of cheaper alternatives that are very well suited for the job like the ones I mentioned.

Gaming mice are usually titled so because of their refresh rates, and sensitivity. 800dpi just isn't quick enough for fluid movement, in my eyes.

I love my Razer(s), but even 2000dpi seems low at times. You'll be hard pressed to find anything >800dpi for less than $30 or so.

its just a mouse.... if you want a cheap mouse just go get one, and if you want a gaming mouse, plan to spend 40-100$

I use a microsoft laser mouse 6000, i love it, but its still just a mouse, i kinda wish i hadn't paid 50$ for it.

not all wireless mice are bad. logitech makes the few good ones that use RF and don't have wifi mouse lag. logitech g7 and anything labelled "revolution" but all those mice are very expensive.

Why the hell do people need such high DPI? I don't see any practical purpose that it serves.

Check www.tigerdirect.com They might not be as fast as others, i.e. NewEgg, but they have some really nice prices.

Having a high DPI is can be helpful to have when using higher screen resolutions. This is especially true for high sensitivity players.
