I have a shiny 15.4" S96J. It's grand. Sometimes though it can get quite hot. Sometimes random red or green dots appear on my screen. It has turned off once or twice due to heat (though my fault for leaving it under a blanket with Oblivion on, overnight). When I put it on my lap my leg feels a certain burning sensation.

Sooo. I'm thinking my ShinyGoBonkers would love me indeed if I got it a nice cooling pad thinga. But I dun have oodles of money. Something in the 20-25$ range would be ideal. I want it to be quite and as much efficiency/cooling as I can get for the money. Besides that, no preferences.

I read the cooliing guide thinga, but neither of those were neccesarily what I wanted? Dunno. Anyone got suggestions for me please?

Lol...i was thinking you can make one by having something to make space under your laptop for airflow, and having a fan to provide that airflow.

"I made a really cheap solution to cool my notebook. I made an "X" shaped peice of cardboard and at the corner of each arm of the "X", I taped a stack of pennies together to make legs. I think I used about $.05 for the back legs, and $.03 for the front. Electrical tape works nicely, so that the notebook doesn't slide or vibrate underneath. As long as your "X" is smaller than your notebook's footprint, you shouldn't see the thing, so quality and appearance aren't an issue. It does help with cooling by allowing air to flow more freely beneath the notebook, and the hotspots aren't as bad. It's a pretty cheap approach."

If one of the heat vents for your laptop is on the bottom (the intake fan is on the bottom of my dell xps m1210), just put a book or something on the end of the notebook to tilt it up. It'll give more air circulation on the bottom, plus the keyboard angle's nicer. That's cheaper than 5 cents because you can use just about anything. :p

There's also programs out there that can control your fan speed. It might make your laptop louder, but its better than frying something.

If you are truly looking for a notebook cooler then let me suggest the Spire Pacific Breeze....fairly cheap price and it works well, even on my 17" Toshiba.
