but it doesn't have a waterproof vinyl interior and a lifetime warranty. And at 60, you can spend a bit more and get a timbuk2

if it's really peace action and presumably fair wages friendly, how can they make it so cheap?

Lower margins. They're trying to raise funds, not make a huge profit, so they don't charge the same markup.

Has anybody actually purchased or tried one of these bags? I tried the Timbuk2 Commute bag today, and while I liked its size, the sleeve compartment was just a little too small to fit my HP NC8430 notebook.

According to the Peace Action Gear website, their bag can fit a larger notebook than the Timbuk2. Are you sure that the bags are identical?

Sorry for the mistake in the original post; I meant Commuter(MED) not Metro.

My Compaq v2000 fits perfectly in the padded compartment, the Sony SZ has lots of room and the Gateway NX260X fits as well.

I ordered this bag for Xmas present for a friend, when he gets it I will report to has how close it is to the commuter bag.

Sorry for the awful pics;(phone) measurement is closer to the peace action then Timbuk2.

All of the notebooks you listed are 14" widescreens or smaller; my NC8430 is a 15.4" widescreen; however, it measures 14.1" wide.

According to the Timbuk2 website, the sleeve can accomodate computers with dimensions 13.75" x 10.25" x 1.25", including the 15.4" Macbook Pro, which measures 14.0" wide. The NC8430 fit into the commute sleeve when forced, but it is definitely too much hassle to be used practically.

The Peace Action Gear site lists the same external dimensions for the bag as the Timbuk2 Commute, but it says that it can fit laptops up tp 14.75" x 10.25" x 1.25". If the sleeve really is 1" longer, then it would be perfect; however, if the bags are identical, then I suspect that there is a typo in the dimensions of the Peace Action Gear bag...

you do know they make the commute in two difference sizes,

    medium: 13.75 x 10.25 x 1.25
    XL: 15.4 x 10.5 x 1.25

Yes, and I was referring to the medium when I said " The Peace Action Gear site lists the same external dimensions for the bag as the Timbuk2 Commute". It is the dimensions of the laptop sleeve in the bag that differ, and that is what I am concerned with.
