Look at notebook coolers from Vantec and Zalman. The Zalman NC1000, for example, is a very popular cooler for 17 inch notebooks.

I'm using the Zalman on my 17" M570RU and it fits it nicely and certainly does the job.

I'll be ordering a Vantec Lapcool4 on monday. If the Zalman had a usb hub, I would gladly switch... alas it doesn't, and one less thing to sit on my desk is a worthy sacrifice, in my eyes.

I'm glad my 1520 has 4 usb ports. One for my iPod, one for my mouse, one for a flash drive and one for my Zalman. And I don't need all of those plugged in at the same time either. ;)

would the evercool cool down my laptop more than the zalman nc1000, due to the fact it has 2600rpm fan, while the zalman only has 1100?

Even at 1100.. it is noisy, see the how many cubic inches of air it can move tru.. it is more important than rpms.

Depends on where ur notebooks' air intake is... what notebook do you have? The Zalman works best with the intake near the front and middle of the notebook, works less when it is at the rear..

Edit: The Zalman pours more fresh air at the intake of ur machine so ur machine could suck the fresh air there to expel more heat. Works better than just plainly blow the heat off the casing (and that's y it doesn't work so well with MBPs). I hope you get what i mean.

    The dimensions of the Zalman NC1000 are 308 x 330 x 40mm (LxWxH). Isn't that too small for a 17" notebook?

What sort of a retard designed that thing?? The specs say it draws 800mA from the 5v line. There's No Way In Hell I would plug that disaster into my laptop's USB.

How would the Zalman do for a Inspiron 1720 (17"), which I believe has rear fans, IMightBeWrong however.

I dunno, but it might be too small. Just received mine today, it's just wide enough to encompass my W3J, which is only 14"

The Zalman should work fine for a 17" notebook (if these forums are to be believed). I'll find out soon as my 17" 5790 should arrive tomorrow and the Zalman several days after that.

Please, let me know how it fits and how you like it if you don't mind. I would really appreciate it!
