I am looking for a monitor, that will mostly be used for gaming, I have narrowed it down to two choices.

    Newegg.com - ASUS VS229H-P Black 21.5" 5ms (GTG) HDMI IPS-Panel LED-Backlit Widescreen LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 ASCR 50000000:1

    or

    Newegg.com - ASUS VS Series VS247H-P Black 23.6" 2ms LED Backlight Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 50000000:1 (ASCR)

I don't know much about monitors, and need help deciding. The size isn't that important to me, I just want the best performance. I heard that IPS monitors were nice but had more input lag, is this important? I would be willing to look at other options if they were significantly better. I don't want to spend more than $200.

    Any help is much appreciated.

What I did was go into my local Micro Center store and I was able to find a refurbished Samsung monitor. It was $110 and has 1920x1080, VGA & DVI, and it is LED. Just keep an eye out for good deals at your local stores.

I will also suggest going to Microcenters. My local store has a ton of cheap/good monitors for sale.

If you need to buy online look into Samsung, Acer, Sceptre.I've had great luck with all of these companies.

How do different monitors differ in terms of performance, especially if the resolution in the same?

I've got a 24" LG that I purchased a few months ago for 180. Though I haven't gamed with it much I sure enjoy it for everything else, Its IPS with a TV tuner, 2 HDMI ports, speakers, and has a remote. One of the cool things about the remote is that it has dedicated brightness buttons, which I've never seen before but it should be a standard.

Costco is another great place to check. I got a 22in Samsung LED monitor from there 2 years ago and I paid under 200 dollars. I believe it was 180 OTD
