While my neverending notebook dilemma remains unsolved, hopefully I can decide on which headphones to buy.
I'm willing to spend around $100 CDN.
Right now, I'm leaning towards purchasing the Audio Technica A500 Art Headphones as I've heard some really great things about them.

From the other headphone topic on this page, I managed to learn that Sennheiser is a good company. So perhaps they have a model that would be a better deal than the ones I'm thinking of purchasing? I'm open to all suggestions so thanks a lot!

The Sennheiser HD 280's are excellent headphones. Very popular too.

Yea I have the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's... I highly recommend them, they're great

I too have the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's. Bought them 5 years ago, I've absolutely loved them ever since.

I have audio technica A700's I have also owned the AD700's best headphones for the money that I have found. Low impedance too so you dont need an amp do drive them. They will run right from your soundcard easy or from somthing with low power output like a portable player.
Not sure how the A500's stack up against them, most of the "audiophiles" get the A700s or A900's
I say go for it tho! Its nice to stand out abit and not just get what everybody else has because its the most popular. You never know if that means its the best.
Stat wise the Auido Technicas appear to be better aswell.
Oh the coolest inovation on the AT's are the auto adjustment headband, it fits you really comfortably and there is no need to adjust it it does it all own its own.
Try to google around for more reviews or somthing if you need a tie breaker, surly the Sens will have more feedback as society has taken that name ans spread it everywhere while Audio Technica is mostly only known about in high end audiophile forums and in japanese socety.
I have been a member of both, so I happen to have been lucky enough to come across them. -
i own a set of AKG K340's and they are superb. Pro studio reference headphones are amazing
and stay away from closed air headphones because you will experience hearing fatigue -

I prefer closed for games because the bass is better and you dont get any noise from outside so its easier to localize where a sound is comming from in a 3d sound shooter game like BF2142 for instance.
Also because not everybody around me wants to hear me play a game, thus why I use my headphones in the first place.
Open air is great for music imo, great soundstage but not for gaming. -
I'll be in a college dorm and I don't want to bother my friend with my music/gaming. Plus, I don't listen to music overly loud so I don't think hearing fatigue will be too much of an issue.
Does anybody know where I can purchase either model in Canada? -

most people go thru audio cubes for audio technica's since they are imported. however you can get some off ebay aswell. Thats where I got both of mine.

I found a great deal on the A700's on eBay and I'll probably buy them.
Thanks a lot for the input. -

Much obliged

If you were still wondering go on to your closest Tom Lee...
I too live in Canada and they had a pretty decent selection of headphones there (perhaps you should check the website for their listings) -
I was going to suggest the Beyerdynamic DT231... excellent cans for the money.
