The Logitech Z-Cinema is good, but as with any speaker system, shipping is going to be damn expensive.

Go to a local store like Best Buy and see what they have there. Prices are slightly marked up, but it should still be significantly less than shipping for the same product over the internet.

The Logitech Z Cinema is anywhere from $50-150 over the budget that wontons specified. Forget the shipping; the speakers are damn expensive as far as the OP is concerned.

Also, there is no way in hell Best Buy is cheaper than an online retailer if you're buying speakers that are widely available in the US. If you can't find a better deal online than at Best Buy, you're either not trying hard enough or you like listening to their employees drone on about their extended service plan. Let's not forget sales tax either.

The reason why shipping for the Edifier M3400 is $40 is because the only online retailers that sell the M3400 in North America are Canadian. Their distribution is virtually nonexistent in the US.

I'm saying that Best Buy or other stores without shipping are cheaper than most online stores when you factor in the shipping. If he can find the Z-Cinema for $50 in a store he can walk in and buy from, it would be a good buy.

And please, don't presume to lecture me on how to shop.

You can try logitech x-240 2.1 speakers, it sells at Amazon for $40. Maybe you can find the same in local shops and stores within your area.

I looked at m3400 and it doesn't look appealing to me. If you want you can check this link at logitech to know more details about the product.

You should be able to find a 2.1 speaker system for less than $50 at a local store. Look for what they have for sale and stick to brand names you know. Logitech, Philips, Creative, Altec. In a sub $50 price range you can pretty much go by look. Get something that suits you size wise and is not too ugly. Features are pretty much the same in this price range and as long as you dont expect too much you should be satisfied with the sound also. I assume if you were an audiophile you would be willing to spend more.

Maybe you are lucky and you can find an older model marked down to your price range.

Of course. Taking offense to a counterpoint is nothing new to you.

You're not going to find the Z Cinema in a retail store for $50. You're not going to find it refurbished in a store for $50. You're not going to find it online for $50 before shipping. Unless you did find the Z Cinema somewhere for that little at a super mega clearance event, the point is moot since its retail price is two to three times the OP's budget.

Nevertheless, if you did find said speakers in a big box store like Best Buy, their markup is far higher than the shipping cost of buying online because someone has to pay for their electricity bill and salesmen. Forget about a pair of speakers. There are online authorized retailers rated 9.0+ at Reseller Ratings that offer a 52" Samsung LCD TV (pick any current model, it doesn't matter) for over $200 cheaper with white glove shipping than what you would find at Best Buy before tax. I should know since I did such comparison shopping first hand.

If you're still stuck on the speaker thing because of its weight relative to its price, my brother bought my parents the Logitech X-230 for $50 plus sales tax at Office Depot. He called to ask me about it while in store, while it was $40 with free shipping on Newegg at the exact same moment that he called, but he insisted on buying something and he had the convenience of being in town to visit them while I wasn't.

No, I don't care to tell you how to shop. I'm not interested in your purchasing habits. However, I do take exception to the spreading of dubious information that can potentially mislead others. I don't know you personally, so if what I've said offends you, then that's your interpretation, not mine.
