Hey guys, i have a Dell Studio 17 that has the following video ports

    HDMI connector
    15 Pin Video VGA connector

my TV is tad old... no money to get a Flatscreen and all...

but i have some family videos and some movies here and there that i'd like to watch...

watching Cronicles of Narnia with my kids on the screen of my 17" laptop was nice in the sense that i get cozy and cuddly with my daughters... but i'd like to connect to my TV...

my TV has S-Video or Components...

    any advice?

    thanks!

If your notebook doesn’t have an S-Video out and your TV doesn’t have a digital or VGA input then you either have to use a VGA to S-Video/composite converter box OR a VGA to component cable. I have personally used a converter box sometime back, it worked pretty well; don't have any personal experience with VGA to component cables. However, S-Video doesn't support HD resolutions, but VGA over component does (assuming your TV supports HD).

I had to buy a VGA --> Composite adapter just a few weeks ago for my HTPC, they are not cheap. Was like $35 for the cheapest one I could find. Works well though. Video looks perfect. Windows/Text is not so good though since the resolutions my computer offer do not match an old SD screen. If I force it then things are so large you cant navigate windows.
