Is there anyway to connect a laptop to a TV between these connections with out spending over 20 bucks for one of those conversion boxes.

    laptop - hdmi and vga
tv - composite, component and s-video

A vga to component cable would be all you need.

Those simple cables generally do not with laptops. The OP will need to purchase a VGA to component conversion box. Have a look on eBay, they're about 20 bucks anyways.

I think most TVs with component in can support RGB colorspace. Before he goes and buys an expensive converter box, he should check that a simple in-line converter wouldn't work. coyotech, what settings does your TV have for component in?

This cheapo TV doesn't have any kind of settings. Anyway I think i will buy a new TV, was planning on waiting a few weeks but anyway. Can you normally find non-lcd crts tv's with vga or hdmi?

I'm from the Bahamas so electronics is double or triple in price. A 19/20 inch lcd costs just over 400 - 450 :(. CRT's that price cost just above or below 200.

Tube TVs will have those sorts of inputs as long as they are HD, usually. Just check to be sure. :)
