I have a dell inspiron m301z and am wanting a monitor that I connect it to at university so that I can watch TV/films on a bigger screen.
My laptop only has an HDMI port and all the HDMI monitors I have found are a lot more expensive than DVI/VGA monitors.

I am looking at spending around £100 for a 20-22inch monitor which is suitable for watching films (and HDMI ones that I have found for £100 do not seem to have great reviews e.g AG Neovo L-W22 22 inch Full HD LCD monitor with LED Backlight - Black (Analogue, Digital, HDMI, 1920x1080, 20,000,000:1, 3ms, 250cd/m²): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories).

Does anyone have any suggestions of any appropriate monitors? And would connecting my laptop to a monitor with DVI input using a HDMI to DVI cable still produce a quality image?

Your laptop have a display port too if I am not mistaken?

You can get a Display port to DVI adapter/cable. The HDMI to DVI cable won't reduce the quality of the picture, both are digital outputs. (Unlike VGA to DVI/HDMI conversion)

Thanks for your reply Johnny T, yes you're right it does have a display port too. So would you suggest getting a monitor with a DVI input rather than HDMI input and just using a conversion cable to connect my laptop to it?

Yeah that is what I would do. Unless you are planning on connecting a games console to it at some point down the line.
