I've been looking at laptops and most of them have headphone ports on the front, which is annoying because if i get external speakers, the lead would be round the front, is there any other way of connecting external speakers, or any wireless options?

the only other way i could think is to get external sound card (PCMCIA, Xpress Card, USB) and plug it through the side..

oh right, USB speakers, do they need a power supply, if they don't, are they still good quality, or do you need an external power supply for really good, crystal clear audio?

you still need to plug into headphone port, just that it's powered by USB and not power outlet. i think you're limited to either external sound card or bluetooth speakers which will be hard to find and come w/ premium price tag. if it bothers you that much then just look for a cheap USB sound card.
