The 3.0 seems out of stock, and presumably higher priced, just curious...what's the difference between these two models and what does the USB 3.0 actually mean in terms of the coolers?

There's no difference in cooling ability, if that's what you mean.

The USB 2.0 version will, if you hook up an external HDD to it, run at USB 2.0 speeds. And the same thing with the USB 3.0 version.

Basically....if you have a Sandy Bridge machine or newer, and you want to take advantage of the faster speeds, go for the 3.0 version. Otherwise just stick to the 2.0 version.
