I am going to buy an Asus M50Vm-A1 soon. I will be using it away from home but most of the time it will be on my desk. I want to get a cooler for it since I will be leaving it running overnights most likely. Can you guys recommend a decent inexpensive cooler? I've been looking at the Zalman NC1000 but they go for about $50 plus shipping/taxes. I would prefer to spend under $40.
So first, what has good match up with the M50's vents at any price, and what is the best that fits into my price range if you have any idea.
Thanks for any help.

Belkin make a few decent coolers. So does Targus.

It will help you learn how to choose the right cooler as well as give a list of the more well known coolers. -

I doubt this notebook will benefit that much from a cooler . . . it doesn't even need one. The bottom of the machine doesn't get warm and there are not a lot of perforations for air to enter. See the NotebookReview.com review for the M50VM:

i would trust the review if it says that the laptop's thermal design is up to par. if u still want to get a cooler, the zalman unit looks like yur best bet. yur vent/fan locations match the nc1000/2000's coolin surface pretty well. -
houstoned, how so, if the review says there is no air intake in the bottom? The purpose of the cooler is to blow cool air in, but if there is nothing taking that in... ???

But, I thought the review said:
Also, does that mean you can just use this thing on your bed, and wouldnt worry about the system not getting well ventilated? One more thing, if the review is correct, wouldnt that mean that notebook coolers wont really help with this laptop?
I was planning to buy a notebook cooler till I researched a bit and stumbled into this thread. Clarifications would be appreciated cos Im really confused right now @_@
Edit:
Btw, for those asking for temps, I only have my GPU temp:
Idle: Around 55 ~ 57
Crysis: 71~73
This is on normal room temperature, w/o aircon. It goes into 48ish with aircon (idle), if anybody needs to know that, lol. -
- green circles = vent locations for yur CPU, HDD, and probably wifi card/northbridge area.
- red line = the side exhaust vent that expels hot air.
- usually a notebook would have another vent for the GPU/CPU fan, somewhere between the biggest green circle (CPU vent) and the red line (exhaust vent).
and it might not be a good idea to use the notebook on a soft surface. the soft surface would block all possible air intake, so i would be careful. -
Well, thing is that the review said that it doesnt have an air intake at the bottom of the laptop, so that led me to think that I can just use it on a soft surface. But I guess Ill just play it safely till more clarification comes.
And yeah, the laptop is pretty cool, doesnt get any hotter than 73, give or take. -
but on a side note...u can never be too cool right? -
Haha, yes. Definitely agreed.
If you do check it out (or for anybody else who knows, for that matter) kindly let me know. That review kinda got it in for me. Confusion galore @_@
Been using its box as a hard surface when Im using it on my bed. Doesnt work too well when I want to lie down front first while using the laptop
Edit:
Btw, using NC software (I think thats what the name is, one in Gophn's thread) I got around 50 in CPU and around 40+ish in HDD temps while idle. -
Bump for this one. Im still waiting for an answer, and hopefully someone knows
