I posted this in the main cooling pad thread, but have noticed no one is really replying anymore.

I am looking for a cooling pad for my Dell Inspiron 15R. I plan on using it for average usage (web surfing, music, movies etc.) as well as a little gaming (WoW, sims etc. nothing intense). The most important factor to me is being able to use the cooler on a bed/blanket while on my lap, therefore any intake on the bottom would not work. I have not received it yet, but have read many reviews saying the 15R runs pretty hot on it's own.

    Here is a picture.

I have been looking at the logitech n100, n700, and zalman nc2500. I have read many great thing about zalman's but to me it seems this model is the only one with a rear intake, and am unsure if it will affect the performance. Any suggestions towards which would be better for the 15R, or any new suggestions would be great!

Can I use the nc1000 on a blanet/bed tho? It looks to me that it would cover the fan ...

This one has a bit more rise to it in addition to having 2 fans.
Targus Lap Chill Mat. Notice the gap to allow cool air to flow through.

I'be heard Targus coolers tend to break pretty easily though.

Can I save you a bit of money? You may not take my advice but at least try it for a week or so and see if it works.

Bottle caps, the plastic kind.....take 4 caps from 20oz bottles or 1 liters. Put 1 on each foot of the notebook. That's about 1 inch clearance for air to travel better.

I have done this with all of my 34 laptops/notebooks/netbooks. Never had a single issue with heat. And I live in South Carolina where the heat and humidity are killer!

I have never, and will never buy a laptop cooler. Even if I put the notebook on my lap I normally have something to space between the laptop and my knees to prevent heat from getting to my legs.

how is having 4 bottle caps attacted to the bottom going to help when he has a blanket on him while in bed and the laptop on his knees, I'm in the same boat im looking for coolers but they all have bottom air intake, what me and him both want is something that takes air from the left and the right of the laptop

You may want to hold off on your purchase until you actually notice a problem - I use my Inspiron 15 every day and heat has always been a non-issue. My two cents. :p

I'm using a different Targus cooler atm. Hasn't broken on me yet. Honestly, things do break yes but it really does apply to everything. Little bit of optimism, but I do have faith in the build quality of manufacturers. Not so much in me handling them. :p
