Due to a miscommunication, I now have 2 of the best mice this world has to offer. One of these mice is a Razer Copperhead, an apparently awesome wired mouse, and the other is the equally amazing G7, except it is wireless.
Now keep this into consideration:
The copperhead was much cheaper ($50 cheaper, it was $50 after rebate, G7 was a whopping $100!) and was purchased online, so returning would be a hassle.
But the G7 is wireless, which is awesome, and I have very little desk space (IE the cord likes to bounce off a wall). Returning would be much easier, apparently its origins were from the depths of my local Micro Center
I am not a gaming guru, and they seem equal performance wise (2000 dpi laser)...
What do you guys think?

I have the G7 and think it's really a great gaming mouse. I don't like the cable getting in the way on my desktop, and that's why I chose it over the Copperhead when I got it.
I was actually thinking about getting myself a Copperhead so that I could compare them side-by-side.
As for the G7, it is really a great mouse. No lag, twin rechargeable batteries, smooth teflon feet, Logitech quality.
I've had a few minor gripes though. One of the battery gauge LEDs stopped working shortly after I got it (no big deal). There's no thumb "back" button (kind of a big deal to me). The scrolling function went weird for a little while recently, but seems to have corrected itself. No replacement battery packs are available for purchase (my biggest gripe). -
Hey just an FYI if you call up Logitech support they can sell you a replacement battery pack even though it's not listed anywhere online. They basically do a drop shipment from the repair center and there ya go. I've had to go that route a couple of times. (How many times can a human being lose his trackball ball? Twice. And counting. =)
I vote for the G7- I used it at a friend's place and was quite pleased. -
It could also be that the guy I talked to didn't know and was too lazy to actually look it up. -
I've never used the Copperhead but I've used G7, I have to say that it is a great mouse.... when its working! I'm not a person to bash something as nice as the G7 but when you've had 2 of them die on you then you tend to lean away from them. I personally would go with the G5, but thats just me. Other then the few defects I've had with the G7 then I liked the mouse alot, but every product has a few bad ones right??
-
This sounds more like a debate between wired and wireless. I have never used the G7, but I have used other wireless mice before. One thing I have a gripe for it is my wireless LAN and cordless phone run on 2.4Ghz, the same freq spectrum as the mouse. So guess what happens when a call comes through the phone? Mousy no worky.
-
Chris: Really? I guess they changed their policies on parts? Maybe he was just getting you off the horn, but if you really lean on them they should be able to arrange an 'out-of-warranty service' and ship you a battery pack. I hope you have some luck with that, I flippin' hate it when you can't get replacement consumables for electronics.....

I sold my Razor to my friend for $20 when I had a chance to game on some1 else's gaming notebook with a Logitech G7. It just feels much more comfortable and has an awesome wireless system with 2 li-ion batteries (slot loaded for mouse and recharger).
I am trying to wait for the price of the Logitech G7 Black Carbon Edition to go down to around $50 (w/ or w/o rebates)... its great since the palm-sweat marks wont show up after a long amount of usage. -

G5
............

The G5 is really a nice mouse, if you are really worried about the wires being tangled the G5 won't. However, the G7 is also a nice mouse. Both are very comfortable. But, like chrisyano has stated, only wished it had the extra button. I think logitech does have one, but with slightly lower DPI of 1600.

My vote goes to G7 mouse. I got it for Christmas and it's Awsome mouse.

Edit: The G3 is laser and has forward/back but seems really small in my hands. -

I personally prefer the Razer Copperhead. It is an amazing mouse all around, and it feels like it was designed for a gamer. I simply don't get that feeling from a Logitech, they all feel the exact same to me.
I have been using a Logitech G5 for the past couple of days (I bought it for someone as a gift, and I have the only computer in the house at the moment, so we hooked it up), and just today I went back to my Copperhead. MUCH better. It feels more natural, fits my hand a lot better, and I like the sculpted buttons. It's like a sports car. -
Of the two, the Copperhead works better for me. I need a mouse that does not take up too much room (thin to fit better) in my bag, and yet be comfortable to use for long periods of time (I use my notebook for business rather than games). The G7 is a nice mouse, but wireless is not allowed on planes! A corded mouse is essential for me, and the Diamond back is my favorite, but since it is no longer easy to find, I have resorted to the Copperhead. The low profile is much better for navigating office applications, photoshop, and other such programs - it allows the palm of my hand to rest on the mousing surface.
Everyone has different needs and fits, so which ever is more comfortable to you is the right choice.

I have used the Copperhead and actually own the Logitech G5 and G7.
I returned my Copperhead mouse the same day I received it from NewEgg.
It just didn't feel right on my hand.
The G5 and G7 are practically the same thing except.
- G5 has easier and better use of the middle scroll button.
- G5 has weights you can add.
- G5 is wired.
- G7 is wireless
- G7 comes with a 2nd battery that can be charged in its base station.
- G7's battery lasts around 6-8 hrs of continous use, I think, good thing there is a 2nd battery that is charging in the base station!
(The base station also has a feature to "Super-Charge" the battery by charging it to full within 3 hours instead of 7!)
On my laptop I use the G7 and on my desktop I use my G5.
I plug my G5 to my laptop when I am at home so I don't have to take out the whole G7 setup from my backpack.
I suggest to try both out like I did.
It was great that I bought all 3 mice from NewEgg.
I was able to return the Copperhead with no problems because NewEgg offers a 30 Day Money-Back Guarantee!
So I guess if you have the cash do it that way.
if not, go to a retail store near you and try them out there and see how it feels and works for you personally. -
I have a pretty decent collection of gaming mice and if I pool it with my roomie in college together we probably have all the mice in existence lol. Anyway on a serious note I would keep the G7 since you dont game that much. The G7 has a number of shortcomings. First of all I can notice a bit of lag when Im gaming. Very very slight and I can live with it and since you are not a hardcore gamer you wont notice. A more annoying problems the battery and interference. The G7 seems to run through the battery extremely quickly. My MX1000 is much miserly when it comes to battery usage. Also when Im copying files from one computer to another via a router and I move the G7 you can notice significant lag due to intereference. Only way around it is to place your router further or switch to wireless A instead of G. Meanwhile the Copperhead doesnt have any of these issues. It is not as comfortable, it lacks the extra buttons and wireless is nice. For a gamer I would say Copperhead but in this case the G7 is a better choice.
p.s. I think the Diamondback is the best mouse lol ^^ -
With my laptop gaming rig on the way I have been looking for the best gaming mouse. Narrowed it down to G5 or Diamondback or Copperhead. I can only find the G5 in stores. I can't buy a mouse without feeling it first. The Diamond/Coppers can't be found anywhere. Advice? There was another mouse I was just looking at that just came out, a gaming mouse, but I can't remember what it was called but I couldn't find it on newegg or any online store.

I've been using my refurbished G5 for a day now and its very nice. Intially there was some trouble with the right mouse button but it seems to have rectified itself. At first i thought of getting the G7 but the battery life and price put me off. The wire on the G5 is not a hassle at all. The USB plug is made small enough so that it doesn't protrude far enough to interfere with your hand (assuming the USB port is right where your mouse hand is).
Cheap G5 FTW -
what a GREAT purchase. i love it so far and my headshots in CS have doubled.

Spoke too soon. The right-mouse button is knackered. This is the risk associated with refurbished goods.

I got the copperhead for $50... and that's the one I went with. It works extremely well, although the ergonomics take a getting used to. Its sensitivity switches on the fly, which helps a lot, and the colors on the side and on the mouse wheel are sweet. It's only been two days, I left it out in my dorm and it already got scratched by someone. Dang.. .its a mighty sexy machine
Copperhead or G7?
