yeah. i also saw the x-fi but it isnt compatible with my SZ since i only have the expresscard 34mm not the 54mm which is needed for the x-fi card. any other suggestions? will the soundcard really make a difference in a 2.1 speaker? again, i have the logitech z2300 2.1 speakers

Why not use an external USB sound card from Creative?

With 2.1 speakers your internal card should be fine...I own a Soundblaster external Live! 24-bit USB...its sound quality is ok, i wouldnt say its any better or worst than my internal one, but it lets me use my 4.1 speakers which was what i wanted from the sound card. The Soundblaster NX USB would be the better option. It is pricey...but is definitely better.

Agree, no difference heard. However I did manage to knock out a slight ground loop using the optical out to the receiver using a ZE4000 as a worn out music server.

I personally wouldn't go with creative, I've got a creative xmod and I'm not impressed with it. But I use mine mostly for headphones, not speakers. Running a speaker set up like that then a creative will do just fine. I'm currently looking at this: http://www.ttvj.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1170
Thats for headphones though and it costs alot more than creatives products.
