I'd go with the Sansa, if for no other reason than it supports UMS and has a Rockbox well underway for it.

There's a review of the Zen V Plus over at epZENter.net which is worth reading. There's a nice review of the Sana E200 series over at dapreview.net, an excellent review site.

I have the Sansa E280. Had it since the day it came out. I love the player, it is very nice. I haven't had any problem with it breaking. I keep in my pocket all day at work too, no issues so far. I really like it, plus it is 50+ dollars cheaper than it was when I bought it. You also can add microSD cards for up to 10GB of storage!

I have the e270. It's a good player and the only thing I dislike about it is that it does not support unicode fonts, so all of my Korean songs are in brackets. Supposedly Sandisk was going to release a firmware for the unicode, but never did so far.

The rockbox is being worked on, but seems like it'll be awesome once officially released.

Go to www.anythingbutipod.com for good reviews. I hate Cnet reviews.

I bought my wife a sanza, and she really likes it. She just wanted a very simple unit for the gym and for traveling. The Sanza is a perfect fit for her. My youngest and second youngest sons both have iPods, the youngest with a Nano, the second with a Video. Young kids and teenagers have to have an iPod or it isn't cool. There is no question there is a world of difference in the quality and features of the iPods compared to the Sanza. I would almost say it is worth the price difference, honestly, but I am a gadget geek. I personally use my iPaq, but I have no real need for an MP3 player.

A forum I frequent had a discussion about the iPod, Creative Zen and Sanzas. It appeared the overwhelming favorite was the Zen. I have no personal experience with it, and I would likely get an iPod or a Zune if I were to get a player, but just in reading others' opinions about the Zen, I would have a tough time passing over it.

Being the owner of a Sansa e260, I would STRONGLY recommend it. It is perfect in every way, with the exception of it music transfer set-up. Some (iPod users) might call the software support for music transfer poor, and I would have to agree. But as long as you use WMP11, you'll be fine.

The problem with the Zen is that it is an HDD. Drop it once and you may as well kiss it goodbye.

    I recently sold my Sansa e250, picked up a Meizu M6 4gb for $140, it's pretty sweet.

I saw a review on the M6 last year... An awesome little player. Out nano's the iPod nano in my opinion.

I'll probably settle for a 4-8GB flash based player when my iRiver H320 finally gives up the ghost.

I recently picked up the e280 and all I have to say is I love it and it isn't an iPood. I have to say the way it plays songs is a bit on the strange side. It doesn't actually play them in the order in which they are placed on the system. Not a big deal but still odd.

You won't be disappointed. That is one heck of a deal too. I paid 250 USD for mine when it came out. I still think it was worth the price! :)

The sansa is pretty great, tons of customization options.

I'd recommend you guys to try the PSP firmware skin - it's pretty awesome.

No it is the 8gb. had a $40 instant rebate and then another $40 rebate at the register. Costco is the best place to shop at times. I was willing to pay the 179.99 price with just the one rebate but the second was just a bonus.
