Good morning!
I'm relatively happy with a new Acer 5920, but overlooked something when shopping.
The monitor-out port does not have the two threaded receptacles for the cable to screw into. I just assumed all monitor-out ports had the receptacles! An external monitor cable just hangs there, relying on the snugness of the plug. That's not gonna work.
Does anyone have any ideas? I was looking forward to using an external monitor while at home. I have access to a metal shop. Could probably build a plate that reached all the way under the lappy and kept tension on the back side of the plug but would prefer a more elegant solution...

My Dell doesn't have it either. I'm sure manufs. started dropping them to save room and cost. Instead of building a rig, you could engineer some strategic "dents" in the connector so that the connection is more snug.

You could hot glue a rubberband or two (or something more permanent
) to the bottom of the laptop and have them hang out the back. Plug the cable in, and loop the rubberbands around the screws on the plug, putting some inward tension on it.
Just an idea. -
Hi, 640 -
Thanks for the reply. This was my first laptop purchase - I just assumed that every d-sub port in the world had the screws
Kind of a newbie mistake.
Liquid - you might be onto something. I have some shock cord lying around for kayak deck fittings and suspending desktop hard drives. Shock cord would be stronger than rubber bands. Bulkier too so I might still have to make a stand of some sort but it's worth looking into. -
I'd be tempted to use a hammer and a sharp-ish hole punch/ screwdriver/ whatever you can find
. Make dints either side on both the connectors, should make it quite stable.

But are those screws really necesarry? I hooked up a monitor to my laptop's dvi port(no screws) whitout problems

TS is saying its not secure. He needs something with bite.
D-sub monitor out port but no threads ?!?
