DVD+R or DVD-R for home player movies?

I was wondering if anyone had a format preference and why. If what I've found on Google is correct, DVD-R is much older and more compatible with everyday household dvd players (but DVD+R can be less susceptible to burning errors).

In the past I've noticed that some players have a tough time with DVD-R discs but are able to read DVD+R ones perfectly (which is the opposite of what I read).

For compatibility to today's standards, which do you think would be better for my video projects (that will be given to others)?

    Thanks for any input. :)

DVD-Rs tend to be more compatible, in my experience at least. ALL optical media is susceptible to burning errors, so get a book and burn your projects at a lower speed if you want to avoid burn/read errors. I burn all important projects at 2x to ensure read compatibility. I'm sure I could get away with much higher burn speeds, but I really hate CRC errors creeping into my media.

Thanks, Thain. I'll definitely go for that 2X burn speed, as I don't want to make more coasters than I already have. :D lol

Do you have a brand preference for media? I see people recommending Verbatim, but I see some decent deals on TDK and Phillips....

    :)

Honestly, media seems to be getting better. I was gifted a spindle of Imation media, and it's actually been surprisingly reliable (they made terrible CD-Rs, so I've never bought anything else of theirs). Normally I use either Verbatim or Maxell, but TDK has been reliable when I've used it, too.

When you're using lower-quality media, a reduced burn speed goes a long way toward improving that media's performance.
