So i just used my extra rakuten super points to get a second u2412m and i don't have a DVI port in my laptop. I need to convert the u2412m DVI to HDMI in my laptop. Last time i bought one i bought the exact opposite so i was wondering if anyone knows the exact term. I thought it was DVi to HDMI but i think it goes HDMI to DVI...as in the term goes from laptop to LCD not LCD to laptop.

Can anyone help me on this...i really don't want to buy the wrong one.

    Thanks
    HF

what about an adapter...i rather have an adapter than a cable....that way i can use any cable i want

EDIT: oh last time i was trying to buy a DP to HDMI hence why the big adapter. NM this is simple. I just need to look at my monitor and see if it takes male or female...don't remember off the top of my head.

    For both HDMI and DVI:
    Monitors have female on them.
    Cables have male on them.

If you buy an adapter, you'll need male-DVI to female-HDMI.

Honestly, you might as well just buy a DVI to HDMI cable. They are $4. You're not going to be saving any money by buying an adapter. The only exception to this would be if you had a specific HDMI cable that you wanted to use (e.g. one of those ultra-thin Monoprice cables with Redmere).

i have plenty of DVI cables and HDMI cables and its easier to carry an adapter...i won't be limited to a cable. Cables are common so carrying an adapter is much easier.

Correct. DVI cables have male connectors at both ends.

This is the same as HDMI cables, which also have male connectors at both ends.
