What's expensive for you? Do you claw grip or palm grip?
I have a Logitech G9 that not love, but like over other mouses. I tried a Razor Deathadder, but it was a bit too big for me, especially considering i'm a claw gripper using a mouse specifically designed for palm grippers. Also when I first used it, my palm had a burning sensation where the "cool" glowing blue LED shone on and off. Still, I think it was rather comfortable, so i'd imagine a palm gripper would love it.
Now, with the G9, pretty good all around, especially as a claw gripper. Some of the extra features are rather in incovenient places though imo, but those aren't meant to be used on the fly anyway (default increase/decrease dpi buttons, left/right middle click scroll and hyperscrolling switch).
When I played WoW, I had many abilities keybound to modifiers + side buttons, scroll buttons, etc. -
I second the G9, especially for MMO's. The Logitech G9 is one of the most comfortable mice I have ever used. It comes with two different hand grips, one for people that are claw grippers, the other for people that "palm" their mice. You can also buy a third hand grip on Logitech's site. This is the one that I use the most, as I feel that it is a compromise between the two styles which is what I like and fits my hand and grip style the best.
So yeah, I've been playing MMO's since days of EverQuest when it was owned by Verant, and thus far, the G9 is one of the best mice I've used for MMO's bar none, although I used the ubiquitous MX518 for years (also an exceptional mouse).
Basically, it is going to come down to feel and ergonomics in my opinion. I would rather have a mouse that is very comfortable to use for hours on end and introduces no strain on my arm, wrist, hand, etc. than a mouse that features more buttons than a vending machine. Therefore, I recommend that you go to your local electronics store first and try some out before anything else. -
G9 for all the reasons already stated. I still use the G9 with my lappy.
Or consider the Steelseries Ikari Laser which is now my personal favorite. I use it with my gaming desktop. -

you should be fine with almost any of the gaming mouse mentioned.
razer deathadder/lachesis/mamba
ms sidewinder x8
logitech g9
steelseries wow edition
many are fine -

To be honest, a "gaming" mouse isn't needed for RPGs: only FPS games need one. Go to Bestbuy or a similar store, try out the mice they have on display, and buy the one that you think is the most comfortable.
-
As for FPS, I see those are more interested in the DPI of the mouse.
So, no one really needs it for either, but helps when gaming. -
Ack I stand corrected.
Well not really. You could easily find a non-gaming mouse that has 5-7 buttons on it, and it would most likely be cheaper than the G9, Sidewinder, etc. -

logitech vx revolution.
-
logitech vx revolution is a good mouse for casual and gaming uses.
-
I use a Logitech MX Revolution for when I play World of Warcraft on my gaming desktop. The extra buttons (as others have mentioned) really help. I can use the standard primary, secondary, and middle mouse buttons, but I can also bind tilt mousewheel left, right to something, the wheel by the thumb can also be used as 3 more buttons (tilt forward, back, and pressing in) and there's another button below the scroll wheel. Plus the regular forward + back buttons. So total I have like 11 buttons I can bind to spells/skills etc. Definately makes things easier versus hunting my skillbar for the right skill and left-clicking on it. I think that Ikari Steelseries WoW-edition mouse has even more buttons, so I kinda want to try that one out. It sells for $99 though so I'll stick with my MX revolution for now.

I'll go ahead and reccomend the Logitech MX518, been playing with it for 2 years now and still going strong, not that many extra buttons but I've had no problems with that.
It all comes down to personal preference though, if you can, just go to your nearest tech store and try out all you can to see which one fits you the best. -
is corded mouse better for gaming than cordless?
-
i like corded mouse for my laptop because i tend to "misplace" things and i have lost around 3 cordless mouses to date ^^
people say that cordless mouses are slower or something like that, but I've never noticed it in gaming -
1) There is the potential that your wireless mouse battery will crap out on you during gameplay.
2) While this may not be an issue now, but there can be a perceptible amount of lag with wireless mice vs. corded mice.
3) Wireless mice have a tendency to be a bit more expensive than corded mice. -
besides the two wireless gaming mouse, wired mouse are better and i would suggest to you razer mice such as deathadder (people like to shape better, i give it that cuz i don't have it) and/or lachesis (7buttons to play with + dedicated dpi adjustment (2) ) i currently have one and i like it a lot
besides the two mentioned, sidewinder(corded) or logitech g9 are both good. i like MS's idea to have 3 buttons for specific dpi slots since you really don't need more than that
i always stick with bigger brands and i will stop here.
for rpg i would hope to have at least 2 different settings of dpi myself, after having own lachesis, they are just "better" mouse.
ps. i prefer corded,or at least wireless the way sidewinder x8 does (cord hub that you can charge the mouse when it is low and use it like a corded one)
note: wireless are great, but they come at a cost to pay for, and they are as fast and as responsive. -
On a good corded mouse the cable is designed in such a way that it still feels like you are using a wireless. -
haha I know what you mean by swapping batteries. I have been through that too..
-
I say g9, but you should just go try a few out before buying!
-
which MMO?
i used to play WoW and my VX Revolution is a MUST...
thumb back button is to run/walk
thumb front button is to shoot/throw
zoom +/- i forget what... iirc flying mount/ground mount
scroll wheel left and right is for stance dance (i play a prot warrior tank)
just don't run out of battery in a raid... -
WoW is a p2p game. I play free mmo like shaiya, 2moons, 9dragons..
-
ha ha ha... well, depends on what kind of server you're on... PvP server is a gank fest whereas PvE servers is more RPG ish...
-
P2P = Pay to Play.

well i for one own the mamba, and i dont think any mouse can beat it since everyone wants a GAMING mouse, with all them fancy features...high dpi.. and such but then people also want a wireless mouse. The Mamba is a mix and if you can afford it, then its perfect. It has high dpi, although i think its useless, great wireless, NO LAG WATSOEVER. It never **** up, basically like ur holding a wired mouse cept with no cord but still retaining features. Another great thing, it is WIRED/WIRELESS so when the battery runs out, appr. 14hrs of gaming on one charge, general use about 72hrs, then it can quickly become a wired mouse and charge battery while still in use. It charges fully in around 2hrs when not in use. So all your late night LAN parties wont be held back by its battery life. Thats all i have to say about this mouse.
-
-
if 130 is too muchto cough up, consider MS sidewinder x8 (100)
besides the design difference from mamba and not having a 5400dpi sensor, it has a better(as it should) capability to track various surfaces with its bluetrack sensor. (4000dpi)
i believe it has longer continuous run time as well and i like the LCD display on dpi as well as having 3 buttons specified for dpi.
only issue is that you will need to not hate the design first as it can be difficult to love by everyone. -
Well, to me, i think that there is only a handful of people who experience Razer mice to be broken. 5 of my friends have either Deathadder/Lachesis/Copperhead ever since summer of last year or before. They haven't broken to date. I dont expect my mouse to last 5 years. Maybe 3 years, hopefully...But i think that Razer is a good quality company. The Microsoft X8 was looking really tempting. It seemed nice but the one offput was the design/ergonomics. I've felt the DeathAdder, and i think that is the best design ever on mice. But the X8 just seems to uncomfortable. If the OP doesnt care about Wireless, then i suggest the DeathAdder, such a great mouse, my friends got it for discount for around 40USD, im sure you can get it at that price. If the design isnt a issue and you dont mind battery re-swapping instead of Li-ON chargeable, than the X8 is also a great choice.

i recommend the logitech G5 for several reasons.
1.adjustable weights
2.good grip
3.smooth moving
4.quick adjustable dpi 500 1000 2000
5.responsive
and its good for any situation FPS RPG RTS.....ECT. -

haven'thave a cloth padfor ages so i have no clue about that, but if a review is render down to nothing just because it doesn't track on cloth no one should take that review or the person with more than a grain of salt...
next time we will have a reviewering saying every other mice is useless b/c they couldn't track glass or whatever... -
Anyways, it is quite a con to not be able to track on cloth pads. Many people use them as they are soft and less rigorous on the Teflon grips. I could go on about this but the fact that a lot of people would be forced to change mats isn't a very good idea. At least IMO its not a good idea to be limited to hard mats because of mouse requirements. -
in fact, i find wired to be just fine. 7feet of wire is over killing and i always wrap 6feet of cord anyways.
there are soft rubber/plastic mat though, correct? haven't have a gaming solution to actually enjoy fps games so i can't comment further.
Decent mouse for MMORPG
