I still have a perfectly functional akg k514, when they break I might get a dac and a akg 700 something
that plainly tells my preference, I love hp that are in the studio area, I hate bass heads, since for one I don't hear a single music type that profits from the mass distortion of those bass heavy hp, and I hear several different kinds of music, thus something more balanced is preferred.
Im heavily inclined on the akg k321
current options are
koss jams - $74
akg 321 - $69
sennheiser mx 270 - $90
sennheiser mx 365 - $48
akg 316 - $105
akg k311 - $69
and yes thats basically what Im willing to pay for those hp and they are more for me doing sports than anything else, given that I don't have any problems with hp falling from my ears, the akg 316 doesn't really offer me anything in terms of ergonomics
do please understand I live in this tech hole called brazil, so we don't have much options, and I'm not going to import hp that aren't that decent

Koss Jams are $74?

those are brazil extortion prices.
a U$5 bucks sennheiser mx 365 is that price here, the U$10 koss jams are that price...
thats why Im thinking really hard to get the akg 321, at least they are mildly decent, I would have preferred to get the q350 from them, but I only got a very shady store selling those for a very unreasonable price of $70, given the exchange rate of 2.3-1... its cheaper to buy here than outside? not possible. the same goes for the newer k324 P
I was also looking for the shure in ear hp and nothing is in the price range that I'm looking for.
basically trying to find something somewhat decent that isn't going to break my bank and i won't shed a single tear if it breaks down due to the usage of my iPod mini as a sports music player (i.e. running, practicing kendo, and other activities) -
Yeah - I don't know anything about the AKGs but they do kind of look like the least bad choice.
Do you have any relatives in the US? Could you get them to send you stuff? Or use something like AudioCubes or Bluetin? (I've used Bluetin in the past for orders totaling at least $10K so I assume they're safe)
It seems that private-to-private gift sending between individuals in Brazil is pretty much the same as anywhere else - anything under $50 is exempt from duty and tax.
Bluetin for example can send from a residential address and also mark items to a certain value (your risk, but they can). If it's something like earphones you could definitely get away with having them marked for <$50...? -

possible fine is possible, and for such a good that I don't intend on putting forth a lot of money, because they will break and no one will actually be able to convince me that those in ear phones can actually withstand the years of usage that I have with my full cans.
but I would have to get something in the ball park of 25, since the shipping from the US is around 25, and that value of 50 for gifts (doesn't actually matter if its a gift as long as its 50 or less) is indeed with the shipping included + insurance
buying something that is less than 25 is exactly what Im doing, the akg 321 is around 20-30, Im going for the akg 340 due to the shop that I thought I could actually go physically there, they don't allow that, despite living very near it, so its 140, that means U$60, which is 10 higher than buying in the US
I would be very inclined to buy some shures if I didn't need to pay at least R$400 for them and they would still be in the crappy area of shures
