I'm having a problem using an external Microsoft Digital Media Pro Keyboard with my Dell Inspiron 9300.
The background:
To use the Hotkeys on the keyboad you install this program called "Intellitype". This program will map the special hot keys to whatever you want. Some hotkey examples: My Documents, My Computer, Web, Email, Calculator. Just push the button and the application or shortcut you programmed is started.
I programmed the "My Messenger" hotkey to start the application Trillian (the IM client/program I use). By default the "My Messenger" key is programmed to start MS Messenger. I verified that if I press the "My Messenger" hotkey, Trillain starts up as expected.
The problem:
When I press "Fn" + "Down Arrow" on the Dell I9300 keyboard (you do this to decrease your LCD screen brightness), the screen brightness will dim one notch as expected, but ALSO Trillian starts up.
This is annoying since, whenever I go into battery mode I'll normally hit "Fn" + "Down Arrow" four times in a row and my screen will dim four notches, but inevitably/inadvertantly I'll start like 4 different Trillian sessions!
The workaround:
Currently, I've worked around this issue, by disabling the hotkey mapping for the "My Messenger" hotkey. This then will not start Trillian when I use the "Fn" + "Down Arrow" key combination. But I lose the ability to launch Trillian by simply pressing the "My Messenger" hotkey when using the external keyboard.
My questions:
Anyone seen this same thing happen?
Any ideas on why "Fn" + "Down Arrow" seems to = the "My Messenger" hotkey?
Any ways to fix this problem without the above mentioned workaround?

Yes, Finally I find somewhat describing the problem I've been having.
I have an Inspiron 6000 and a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 and the same thing happens to me and I discovered the same work around. Other things that have happened include:
fn F3, fn f10, fn prnt scrn all do not work.
fn F8 no longer shows image
and Intellitype hijacked the volume display that fn page down and fn page up used to show.
I think there must be some mapping system and both dell and microsoft didn't work hard enough to make sure their keyboards and laptops would use different button designations. For example... it seems to me that when you hit fn (down arrow) that sends some command that triggers a designated event, say E123 and the messenger button also triggers that same event (E123). Intellitype listens for E123 events and triggers something to occur when it hears that event happening.
Thats what I think is going on and I wish someone who knew more about all of this could help us out.
