    Hi Friends,

I have Dell Inspiron 640M and the mose button of the laptop is not working. I tried opening the laptop and observed that the rubber spring(a round bulb kind object which gives the spring action to the key) below the key is broken. I want to replace only the mousepad of the laptop.

Can some expert suggest me the best solution. I will be verythankfil if you can pass me the link where I can place the order for it.

    Thanks in advance
    Navnith

I’m at Dell Headquarters in Austin, Texas and I just came across your question. The part that needs to be replaced is referred to as the palmrest and it includes the touchpad, buttons, and surrounding plastics. If the system is under warranty you can either get that set up by calling support or I can help. If not, you can purchase the part and swap it out yourself. The part number for an Inspiron 640M palmrest is NG338 and the field service manual that shows how to install it can be downloaded from our support site. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

If Dell C.A. could confirm that the palmrest from the 630M would work I do have a spare. Let me know if you want it.

I'm actually on duty. I work blogs and forums full time. The palmrest is actually the same. If you call tech support or look it up somewhere you may initially see/be told that the part numbers don't appear to match but that's only because the "kit", (which includes screws, stickers, etc), has its own part number and those two are different. I looked in the BOM for each kit though and the main part; the palmrest itself, has the same sku in both. Let me know how that works out.
