I'm looking for a good backpack to use to carry around my new 9300 and books for school next year. I'll also be tarveling Europe a bit this summer and plan to take my laptop and backpack with me. Any suggestions? I'd perfer a good brand like Northface if possible.

Well, Northface has a bag, along with Kelty if you're into the backpacking brands. Mobile Edge makes a 17" pack that's pretty nice.

The Mobile Edge Premium is a great backpack...too bad it doesn't fit the 9300. I tried everything I could think of to make it fit, but the cushions made it stick out and not zip up. Targus XL is what I have now, and seems to do pretty good. Booq and Kensington also have bags for it.

Just an idea: Get a regular backpack to carry your books around in, then get a sleeve like Booq's Powersleeve XXL or tekmod (review: http://www.notebookreview.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17581 ). This way you don't have to worry about your books hitting your laptop, and your backpack won't be so heavy and will be easier on your back.

P.S. if you want to get a tekmod, tekstyl.com or ebags have the exact same bag, but they list it with bigger dimensions and have stated it will fit the 9300 (RadTech told me it wouldn't).

I believe Mobile Edge has special model (Mobile Edge Premium) for the Inspiron 9300 made specifically for Dell.

The only place I found it was at Dell.com, but it has worked great! It's big, but hey your laptop is big already.

SouthernGirl, I liked your suggestion, but after looking at the Powersleeve XXL by Booq, I don't think it will quite be big enough. Do you personally have a 9300 that fits in it? I think I'll go with the sleeve idea, or the High Sierra Magnum Bag I just found if the sleeve won't fit. Any last suggestions? Thanks all for the input.

My mistake, I was looking at the VyperXL by booq, not the PowersleeveXXL. The PowersleeveXXL would fit for sure. Too bad the VyperXL probably wouldn't

You might also want to inquire about the Crumpler Team Player (there is a new model out too- not sure of the name). The Team Player laptop compartment dimensions are listed as 15.75 x 2.75 x 11.81 (I would call a store though and have those dimensions confirmed), which should fit the 9300 then. I bought the Base Toucher (the smaller model) for a 14" laptop, and it is a very nice bag- good padding, nice shape, waterproof, hidden zipper. Try Photoco on Ebay- good prices and great service.

For a price, Spire makes great quality packs specifically designed for notebooks.

The Meta model ($180) will fit 17"widescreens. I almost got this one but decided it was a little too big for me(2800 cu in.). But if you're taking it to Europe you may appreciate the size.

Note: A sales rep told me that later this year a smaller capacity backpack will be available which can accomodate a 17"widescreen.

did you use it for a 17" widescreen?
the spire rep. told me it wouldn't fit.

If you did, I may be interested.
