    Hello all!

Any day, or week, or month now (assuming I can get the deal I want) I plan on purchasing a Dell u2311h monitor. However, I do have a question or two before I finalize my decision:

    1) Is the backlight bleed that much of an issue?

    2) How flexible is the Dell return policy? I know they have a zero-dead-pixel guarantee, but what about the tinting and the above-mentioned backlight issue? Am I going to have to pay shipping every time I return a unit I am unhappy with?

That's all for now, and thanks for any input!

2.) I had the worst customer service situation I ever had in my entire life trying to return 2 of my 3 Dell U2410 monitors that had defects. As an ultrasharp monitor it carries there highest class warranty and they still tried to screw me over in every way.

I never got any help until I went on the dell forums and talked via PM directly to somebody that was in charge.

They tried to send me refurbished monitors of a different model, they tried to make me send back all 3 monitors and pay shipping, they even tried to make me re-buy the monitors at a higher price.

They never once just simply tried to replace the broken monitors :/

I really mean it, it was so rough, so aggravating that its been over a year now and I can still taste the sourness in my mouth when I think about what Dell put me through and I will never buy something from them again unless there is no other choice.

lol... you have had the worst luck. On hardforum, some members are cycling, rapidly, through 3 monitors before finding the "right one"

I, personally, have one and love it!

Backlight uniformity isn't an issue, unless if you are running it uncalibrated at full blast.

But either way, get one of the ICC profiles for the U2311h from TFTcentral uk, and it's all fine, again :)

I did have the worst luck, dunno why.

out of the 10+ 1 hour long phone calls I made not once did I even get to speak with somebody without a harsh accent that I could barely understand. Had I spoken with an American call center that may have made things much easier on me.

lol... I just use chat support.
For Indian accents, immagine a really horrid british accent, then you will understand them easily.

Okay first off I don't know what Vicious was doing.

My RMA took 20-30 minutes on the phone, had the order shipped then next business day with next day shipping. (Called Friday, shipped Monday, received Tuesday)

Okay here's the low down the U2211H/U2311H
    * They will RMA because of tinting. I haven't heard of them rejecting an RMA for this.
    * They will not RMA for super light backlight bleeding. Anything considerable~ will be RMA'ed (from my understanding of monitor brands, 3~ inches of continuous backlight bleeding=RMA)
    * They will obviously RMA for dead or bright pixels.

    Cycling them is incredibly easy.

Just telling you the facts. I had pink tint issues on my U2410s and never even though I called multiple times, at different times in the day, and tried different numbers did I speak with somebody that would just RMA my monitors.

They bounced me back and forth over 50 times between customer support and tech support, and did all sorts of other evil things like I mentioned.

If you thinks your experience with Dell was bad, you should read the chronicles (I started a thread) of my dealing with HP? If you do, you might not feel so bad.

My lappy was out for months and I just got it back today after 6 weeks. I'm still putting it through the paces to see if what they did works and if it's finally up to standards. Just in case you don't want to read the long story, my laptop has been in and out of the shop for over 3 months in the year that I've had it.

Eeek yeah that sucks too. I have RMA'ed my Asus laptops multiple times and often times it was my own fault and they took superb care of me. I think atleast in part due to the fact I bought it from GentechPC and let Ken @ Gentech handle all the arbiter duties between me and Asus.

Thanks for all of the info. The customer service issue does concern me, since I too have had unpleasant experiences in that regard. Are there any reputable resellers that sell the monitor I am considering?
