I'm desperately on the hunt for a universal docking station or even just a port-extender with at least one serial port, any number of USB 3.0 ports, and two DVI (either -D or -I) ports.
What is tripping me up is the combination of the serial port and the USB 3.0 port makes this a rare beast.
Any ideas?
BTW, do any of you know who might make custom universal docking stations to order?
Thanks in advance!

I have yet to see one with serial AND USB3. for Dells or HP Elitebooks. however I did find that a good usb 2.0-DB9 serial adaptor works awfully well. and my husband did mod one internally into an HP advanced dock so I could run all 5 screens and run an old SUMMA plotter that runs serial.

KCETech1, do you mean something like this: Dell - E-Port Plus Advanced Port Replicator with USB 3.0 for Dell Precision M4600/ M4700/ M6700 Mobile WorkStations : PC Accessories | Dell Canada has seria and USB3.0, however it is Dell specific.
@ OP, you will not find a universal docking station, docking ports on laptops are proprietary and unless you're willing to cope with a USB to serial adapter, you'll have to settle for something like a Dell Latitude, Precision with the correct dock or the same from HP/Lenovo with corresponding notebooks. -
nice find Tijo that will work, the OP is looking for an e or W ( latitude or Precision ) there is a second thread kicking around here in more detail

By the way, the docking port for Dell laptops has been the same for some most Latitudes and Precisions for some time, since the Mx400 series IIRC. The main difference in one marketed towards a given Latitude E series or a Precision M series is the power supply that comes with it. You can get a used dock with or without PSU on eBay and then use a spare PSU meant for your laptop.
The older PR03x I got was listed as being for a Latitude laptop, I just used a spare 240W PSU for my M6700 and it worked like a charm. Heck, if the dock is for the same desk, but different laptops, just get the one with the PSU for the Precision and you're good to go. Latitude and Precision adapters have the same voltage the 240W is just capable of providing more power (higher amperage). -
I can't see reference to a Latitude / Precision or an Elite/ZBook on the OP. Aside from that (or the Lenovos - and maybe something like Fujitsu if they still do docks), you're pretty much stuffed. There is no universal dock that does pretty much any of that (Serial, USB3.0, dual DVI).
