So I'm taking a slightly different tack to 'recommend me a more casual messenger over $1K' approach, since recommendations seem to be thin on the ground to say the least.

Instead, I'd like to see your idea of the coolest messengers you've seen (or indeed, own). Hopefully it'll give me food for thought.

As I may be thinking of something else entirely, please define 'messenger'.

He most likely means a messenger (or shoulder) bag, the type of bag that has a single long strap designed to go on one shoulder.

"'recommend me a more casual messenger over $1K' approach"

Was this a typo? $1k?! Damn!

Have you had a look at the Timbuk2 range? I am not the biggest fan of the design, but they are very good bags from what I have heard. Plus customisable for added cost.

Out here in Australia we have rushfaster.com.au, and excellent online store, which gives some pretty good info. Might be worth a squiz?

I'm looking for a new bag, currently have a Booq that just fits my Dell XPS M1730. Due to work commitments, I am travelling heaps now, so I am looking at picking up a 15" laptop soon, and picking up another bag to pack the laptop and my travel stuff. Looking at the Booq Taipan, not the cheapest option, but they make excellent quality bags. Very durable and tough, with great materials and zippers. Plus you get the free recovery service, have a look at their website for more info on that.

The President is a little too similar to the Glaser day bag I already have. Definitely looking for something more casual-looking.

The Baudrier is intriguing at first sight, but the image is very small - are there bigger images someplace?

Carbon alone is too tacky for me. I had a laptop attache built for me that combines a carbon tub with a leather exterior - so not looking for another attache.

I favour towards bike messenger bags. I currently own a Timbuk2 Outtawhack ( NBR review by myself) and a Manhattan Portage Waxed Canvas Messenger which I use with a notebook sleeve.

Those are probably "too casual" for you. :p Then again I am a poor student.

PS. I do quite like the look of The Baudrier though. one day I will be able to afford it haha.

Why not buy a bag around $100 and a matching gaming laptop to go with it lol

This is my Oakley SI laptop bag I use for my m15x. It comes with a heavily sleeve and sells for about $170 when you can find them. It is absolutely the most heavy duty bag I have seen.

    Enough pockets for you? :D

Ah - thanks. I tried it again and it worked. Must have been something to do with NoScript. Hmmm. Definitely intriguing - definitely among the best contenders I've seen thus far. I'll do a bit more looking around but I feel a purchase brewing.
