I was given an adapter which physically fits my NB, but it's rated at 19V@ 4amps, while my original (failing) one is only 15V@3 amps. Am I going to blow up my machine using this? I tried it briefly and it seemed fine. My thinking--anybody with more experience here please correct me--is that the motherboard itself probably has a voltage regulator that adjusts accordingly.

    Thanks!

If you can look up the technical spec's on the laptop. It should have an input voltage range, most equipment is built this way. So more info on your laptop would help. In the telco world most equipment is stamped at -48V DC, however it will run from -40 to -58V DC. Same goes for +24v equipment, range of +16 to +30v in some equipment. Just depends on how the equipment was built.
