Does the extra spacing make things like using the wasd annoying?

I hate chiclet keyboards. I saw the thread and had to come in to say that. In fact, that's what made me turn away from HPs new 8770 when it came down to the big two.

They're extremely hard to type with (In my Opinion). That little piece of metal or plastic frame surrounding each key will hinder your finger if it's not directly center on the key when you press down (In my Opinion). Dirt and debris can also get lodged in the gap and cause a key to stick a bit (In my Opinion). It also makes the keyboard more difficult to clean (In my Opinion).

On the contrary, my own experience tells me that going back to old notebook's standard keyboard bothers me.. it's too close

No, but a lot of them (if we're talking about external keyboards) are 2-3KRO.

For the most part its the gap between keys. But there's also a tactile sense that I find alien. Its sorta like typing in dice. Its the opposite of the ergonomic feel of a traditional qwerty keyboard.

I also see it as a change for the sake of change and not because it offered a better interface. In this case, there was no need to reinvent the wheel.

Thing is, I can never seem to get my fingers to seat quite right and end up to the left or right of where I should be. When I look down, I've typed all sorts of quirky things. It looks like code. Albeit not one even I can decipher.

I went from a standard laptop keyboard to a chiclet, I got used to it. Then I got my M6700 and whenever I have to use a chiclet keyboard, I usually hate it. There are a few good ones out there, but the ones that feel mushy and have no tactile feedback are legion and the ones done right are rarer. Did it prevent me from using the WASD cluster correctly though? Nope.

Everyone has their own preferences. I agree with Krane that nowadays, the chiclet keybaords feel like they're there just for the sake of putting them there. It's like manufacturers feel obligated to use chiclet keyboards. If they want to put one there, sure go for it, but don't just jump in the bandwagon of everyone else is doing it (I'm looking at you Lenovo!).

I have noticed more and more mfgrs using chiclet keyboards just for the hell of it. It's the only thing I hate about my cousins MacBook. Her chiclet keyboard makes it hard for me to type.

Been gaming on notebooks with chicklet keyboards for years. No problem here.
