I'm in the market for buying some quality 2.1 PC speakers for my Sony Vaio FW notebook and I think I'm gonna go with the Altec Lansing MX-5021, as I have not heard any negative review of it. But something else bugs me: my laptop has an integrated audio card (with a Realtek chip) and my question would be if it is enough to handle those THX certified speakers? If not, what do you recommend? Thanks.![]()

It will be able to run them of course. But you might be able to tell a difference in sound quality with them. I know with my Klipsch 5.1 system(they don't build them anymore
) then I can tell the difference in sound with a internal sound card or a external one. For most 2.1 systems, then you can tell the difference in sound, but the integrated sound cards will do just fine.
Do I need a standalone audio card?
